Insider Only Volquez throws 6.1 shutout innings in 1-0 loss to Cardinals

  • In an excellent start, Edison Volquez allowed 3 hits and no runs over 6 1/3 innings vs the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. Volquez struck out 5 and walked just 2. A key stretch in the game for Volquez was in the bottom of the 5th inning when he ran into a jam as the Cardinals had runners at second and third with one out. Volquez would strike out Matt Carpenter and Kolten Wong in back to back at-bats to end the inning, getting Wong out with a nasty slider. Volquez was pulled in the seventh with a pitch count of just 82 pitches.
