Insider Only Wednesday Morning Practice: Roethlisberger throws 3TD’s in Redzone Drill

Broken Coverage
The Steelers secondary had a tough time staying with the club’s receivers in a coverage drill, as quarterbacks Ben Roethlisberger, Charlie Batch and Dennis Dixon were pretty sharp from start to finish.
In the 11-on-11, team red-zone drill, Roethlisberger threw three touchdown passes: to Santonio Holmes, Shaun McDonald and tight end Dezmond Sherrod, while Batch had one to McDonald.
In the coverage drill, wideout Steven Black beat

cornerback Keiwan Ratliff and safety Derrick Richardson with a strong pass from Batch. …
*Roethlisberger fired a quick slant to McDonald after he lost cornerback Joe Burnett in front of the end zone. … Batch also hooked up with McDonald, who beat Ratliff and cornerback Anthony Madison.
*Batch found McDonald near cornerback William Gay, and McDonald’s veteran savvy got him open for a toe-dragging touchdown. …
*And several plays later, McDonald beat him in front of the end zone for a score by holding the ball over the pylon before he went out of bounds.
*Dixon was able to find Black open in back of the end zone, as safety Tyrone Carter was late. … And the two did the same thing to Carter a short time later. …
* Cornerback Roy Lewis almost made a spectacular pickoff, but he was out of bounds when he gained control. … Burnett and safety Ryan Clark couldn’t stay with Mike Wallace, as Roethlisberger found him open in a seam. … Batch hit Wallace a short time later, as Burnett couldn’t make the play.
