The Latest Steelers Buzz
The Steelers head into their week 7 showdown with the 6-0 Minnesota Vikings having to deal with the distraction centering around kicker Jeff Reed but for now the Steelers will let the process run its course and Reed will play against Minnesota.
According to Mike Tomlin, Reed has been given the benefit of the doubt compared to Santonio Holmes last year because Reed’s incident happened on a Sunday whereas Holmes was cited by police on a Thursday in the middle of a work week. At this point, the Steelers don’t anticipate Reed being suspended from them or the league.
There won’t be a running back controversy this week. Mike Tomlin indicated today that

2nd year running back Rashard Mendenhall has the “hot hand” and has earned the opportunity to take the bulk of the carries. Mendenhall will be the starter until further notice according to Tomlin.
*On the injury front, the Steelers are relatively healthy. Linebacker Andre Frazier (quad contusion) is expected to play this weekend.
Rashard Mendenhall has a knee bruise, could be limited on Wednesday but the injury won’t affect his ability to play.
Tomlin indicated Troy Polamalu is progressing which is a good sign. Polamalu may be limited early in the week but is expected to be ready to go for the Vikings on Sunday. The injury he suffered on his second quarter interception was not related to his MCL sprain.
