Insider Only Willie Colon informed he’s moving to left guard

COLON SHIFTING TO LEFT GUARD
It was only a matter of “when” not if the Steelers move Willie Colon to left guard, and Colon has already started making the transition to left guard.
Colon was quoted today via Mike Prisuta of DVE saying he’s moving to left guard. “I’m making the transition to left guard, ” Colon said. “I like it, it’s just a matter of learning the verbiage.”
The Steelers informed Colon about the move immediately after the draft.
Colon is now penciled in at left guard with first round pick David DeCastro at right guard. The move of Colon to left guard and DeCastro at right guard, pushes Ramon Foster out of the starting lineup. Foster is due $1.26 million this season as is Doug Legursky, giving the Steelers expensive backup guards.
The Steelers long-term hope on the O-line is Mike Adams at left tackle, Colon, left guard, Maurkice Pouncey, center, DeCastro, right guard, and Marcus Gilbert, right tackle.
With Adams possibly not being ready for a starters role this season, the Steelers are expected to strongly consider resigning Max Starks, if his health checks out in July, which would keep Marcus Gilbert at right tackle, instead of having to switch him over to left tackle for just one season.
If Starks is resigned and with Foster having the versatility to play guard and tackle, it is expected that the Steelers will release Jonathan Scott at somepoint this summer. Releasing Scott would save the Steelers $2.2 million.
