Insider Only Winter Meetings Buzz IV: Pirates go two years for Grilli, wait on decision

The Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon increased their offer to two years for reliever Jason Grilli after meeting with Grilli and his represenative Gary Sheffield. The Pirates, according to a source, are believed to be offering a deal worth over $6.5 million.
Grilli yesterday also met with the Red Sox, Cubs, Brewers, and Blue Jays, but it appears the Brewers and Red Sox have been eliminated from the mix.

Peter Gammons reports Grilli’s decision is coming down to the Pirates, Cubs, Blue Jays and Giants. Sheffield is trying to get one of the four teams to go three years.
However, that is considered unlikely, making the Pirates a front runner for Grilli’s services.
A decision is imminent we’re told.
UPDATED: 2:00 P.M. – A source close to the situation told Inside Pittsburgh Sports that Grilli is likely to sign with the Pirates but he continues to weigh the opportunity in Toronto. The Blue Jays are offering a bit more money than the Pirates and have a chance to contend this season. “It’s weighing on him,” a source said.
