Five hours until the NFL Draft kicks off and the Steelers will be playing the waiting game as the Super Bowl Champions have the last selection in the first round. There has been a ton of buzz the past 48 hours that the Steelers¬†are looking to go¬†defensive line in the first round. They have two potential targets at the top of their wishlist in Missouri’s Evander Hood and San Jose State’s Jarron Gilbert. If Hood is off the board, the Steelers will strongly consider moving back a few picks, adding an extra draft pick and selecting Gilbert in the early to mid second round. Defensive Line, Cornerback and Offensive Line¬†remains in play with pick #32. Wide receiver to some extent but going wide out is a major longshot and there are only two prospects the Steelers will consider. 10 Prospects under consideration at pick 32, Plus the late first roundRead More »

Is it a reach to draft a center in the first round?

The Latest Draft Report With the last pick in the first round, the Steelers approach is to take the best player available just like they did last year in the first round, selecting Illinois running back Rashard Mendenhall. The only positions they have ruled out in the first round are quarterback, running back and tight end. With a strong focus on upgrading their interior line, internal discussions are on-going about whether the team will draft a center over a better value pick. Some Steelers insiders believe you never draft a center in the first round, especially in this year’s draft with a deep group of centers and guards. Two players who will be under serious consideration at 32

The Latest Steelers Buzz

Photo courtesy of SteelCityHobbies The Pittsburgh Steelers held their victory parade in downtown Pittsburgh today. Mike Tomlin and defensive coordinator Dick Lebeau deserve a lot of credit for the team’s success on the field but Kevin Colbert deserves a lot of credit for constructing a Super Bowl champion. The Steelers got minimal production from their 08 draft but Colbert make key draft picks in 07 such as Lawrence Timmons, William Gay who didn’t make much of a impact in 07 but were unsung players on the 08 team. I doubt there are many fans questioning the team drafting Lawrence Timmons now. He’s going to be a special player next year. 2007 Second round pick LaMarr Woodley who has 8 sacks in four career post-season games is developing into one of the games top linebackers. The Steelers 07 draft class is looking very good. In 2006 Colbert moved up seven spotsRead More »

2009 NFL Draft Rankings: OL

The Steelers will likely draft an offensive lineman with two of their first four picks in April’s draft. They could address the tackle, guard and center positions. CENTERS Rankings 1. Alex Mack- California, Sr (6-4 316 lbs)- Legit first rounder. I don‚Äôt see a way he gets past the Steelers (if he does fall that far) 2. Max Unger-Oregon, Sr (6-5 300 lbs) – Unger is a very athletic and intelligent player. 3. Jonathan Luigs-Arkansas, Sr (6-4 314 lbs) – Luigs had Felix Jones and Darren McFadden there last year to make him look like the best center in the country. Well he should have left Arkansas with them because there is no way he is passing Alex Mack and at this point he has fallen behind Unger as well. 4. Antoine Caldwell- Alabama, Sr (6-3 293 lbs) – He has had some character issues but they were very minor.Read More »
