The pursuit of free agent wide receiver Ashley Lelie has no bearing on the progress of 2008 second round pick Limas Sweed. The pursuit of Lelie is to bring him in as a 4th receiver and act as a possible fall back plan if Sweed doesn‚Äôt progress into the #3 receiver that the Steelers think he will. 2009 3rd round pick Mike Wallace will contribute on special teams but he needs a lot of work on his route running as he makes the jump to the NFL. Veteran wide receiver Ashley Lelie (6-3, 196 lbs) visited the Steelers on Monday according to the Tribune-Review Lelie a seven year veteran, was once regarded as one of the top deep threats in the NFL. From 2002-05 with the Denver Broncos, Lelie had 168 receptions and 12 touchdowns including a career best 54 catches for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns in 2004. The past three seasons though, Lelie has not been a factor on the field. Lelie has bounced around the league playing for Atlanta, San Francisco and Oakland. Since 2006, Lelie has only 49 receptions and recorded 11 receptions – 197 yds – 2 touchdowns for the Oakland Raiders in 2008. Lelie did average 17.9 yards per catch.
