NHL Insider Report: Antropov, Kaberle drawing significant interest; NYR to pursue Scuderi in FA?

 

The Penguins, Hurricanes, Stars and Blue Jackets have had discussions with the Leafs about forward Nik Antropov. Leafs GM Brian Burke is driving up the price for Antropov If Blues forward Andy McDonald hits the free agent market, Brian Burke will look to bring him in. Rob Scuderi has been one of the Penguins most consistent defensemen this season. Scuderi could triple his current salary on the open market and sources indicate the Rangers will make a play for him if he opts for free agency. The Penguins have recalled forward Chris Minard. Minard has appeared in five games this season and this will be his third call up of the season. NHL: Shanahan continues to explore the market

 

Winger Brendan Shanahan continues to explore the free-agent market according to the Philly.com. “He’s still trying to see which is the best fit,” his agent, Rick Curran, said last night. Sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports, the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins, Washington Capitals, Chicago Blackhawks and the Montreal Canadiens remain potential landing spots for Shanahan. Chicago and Montreal have been making late pitches to lure Shanahan to their cities. The Flyers, Capitals and Devils are near the top of Shanahan’s wish list. The Latest NHL Buzz The Tampa Bay Lightning are shopping Radim Vrbata who has minimal value right now. Vrbata has gone 40 games dating back to last season without a goal. Winger Gary Roberts is also believed to be on the trade block with the Detroit Red Wings showing interest. The big name who could be moved at the trade deadline is Marty St. Louis. If the playoffs are an afterthought, indications are ownership will explore the possibility with the idea of getting younger and clearing enough cap room to make a run at one of the top tier wingers on the free agent market next season. NHL: Shanahan meeting with Flyers GM?

 

Bob McKenzie of TSN reported today that free agent forward Brendan Shanahan is meeting with Flyers GM Paul Holmgren today. The two sides are expected to discuss what kind of role Shanahan would play with the Flyers if he were to sign with them. The St. Louis Blues are the only team to publically acknowledge having interest in Shanahan. The Av’s, Bruins, Capitals, Predators have made inquiries in the past week. Shanahan remains very interested in playing in the Northeast. Sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports, the Penguins have minimal interest in Shanahan.
