NHL: Fedorov trying to lure Shanahan to the nation’s capital?

Sources indicate the Washington Capitals have inquired about forward Brendan Shanahan. The man behind the Capitals interest can be accredited to Shanahan‚Äôs old teammate Sergei Fedorov. Fedorov is believed to be trying to lure Shanahan to the nation‚Äôs capital. Shanahan who currently waits for the Rangers to make up their mind will begin listening to offers from other teams within the next couple weeks, if the Rangers don’t make an official offer. The issue for the Capitals is they would have to move some salary to sign Shanahan.

NHL: Shanahan denies offer?

The New York Rangers have offered Brendan Shanahan a try out contract according to the New York Post. It was believed the Rangers were set to make Shanahan a 1 year offer prior to training camp but the front office remains split on Shanahan. The Rangers want to see what they have first before offering a guaranteed contract to a veteran player on the downside of his career. Thus far Shanahan has refused to show up to camp without a guaranteed contract. Shanahan remains focused on playing with the Rangers but will explore other options in the next 7-10 days if the Rangers don’t make an official offer within that time frame.
