NHL: Rangers exploring all avenues to shakeup roster

 

The New York Rangers are active in trade talks trying to add scoring and trying to move one of their big salaries (Gomez, Drury, Redden, Rozsival. The Globe and Mail reports the Leafs are expressing interest in Wade Redden. There is talk that John Tortorella has his eye on Pavel Kubina but it makes little sense for the Leafs to acquire Redden who has five years remaining on his contract. Rangers/Heatley Rumors The Rangers have showed a strong interest in Senators forward Dany Heatley and are among the five teams that remain in the running. The Rangers have also inquired about Sharks forward Patrick Marleau and Jonathan Cheechoo.

A number of GM’s and agents have arrived in Montreal and the rumor mill is heating up. 1:31 p.m. – The growing consensus is that Wild GM Chuck Fletcher and Leafs GM Brian Burke will be the most active GM’s at the draft. 1:15 p.m. – 47 yr old Chris Chelios wants to play in the NHL next season and join an Eastern Conference Team. Don’t be surprised if the agent for Chelios contacts the Penguins as Chelios expressed an interest in Pittsburgh following the lockout but from Pittsburgh’s end, there won’t be any interest. 1:01 p.m. – The 2010 Winter Class is set: The Boston Bruins will host the Philadelphia Flyers at Fenway Park which will then set the stage for the New York Rangers to host the Washington Capitals in 2011 at Yankee Stadium.

The GM meetings will be held in Chicago on Thursday. Marian Gaborik will be at the forefront with the Montreal Canadiens, Vancouver Canucks, New York Rangers, expressing significant interest. While the Canadiens have been mentioned as the early front runner in the Gaborik sweepstakes, the Rangers are a team to keep an eye on. The Rangers have been exploring the trade market for center Chris Drury and are currently in the market for a elite top line winger.
