TRADE DEADLINE REPORT The trade market is stagnant, mostly due to how tight things are out west. Just six points separate the Colorado Avalanche who are 15th in the conference and the San Jose Sharks who are 8th in the conference. General Managers are not yet ready to sell off rental players and the prices are outrageous even for depth players. LATEST NHL FREE AGENCY &TRADE BUZZ NASH TALKS HEATING UP To no surprise, leading into next Friday’s draft in Pittsburgh, trade talks surrounding Rick Nash are significantly heating up. Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch who is always on top of things writes, “NHL sources have told The Dispatch that as many as seven teams have had “significant” trade conversations with Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson about Nash during the past 10 days and that a handful of other clubs — three or four, maybe more — have “kicked the tires” to see what a deal might cost them. “Most of the teams known to be expressing interest are the ones that expressed interest at the February trade deadline. The New York Rangers are one of the most interesting teams leading up to the trade deadline. Today the Rangers claimed Mark Bell off re-entry waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs They are actively shopping Scott Gomez and Chris Drury. Gomez has the most trade value but they prefer to move Drury. The Rangers have approached the Colorado Avalanche about forward Ryan Smyth. They haven’t moved on older veterans Keith Tkachuk or Bill Guerin to this point. Word is John Tortorella wants management to add another puck-moving defensemen prior to the trade deadline.
