O’Sullivan signs three year deal The LA Kings have signed forward Patrick O’Sullivan to a three year deal. O’Sullivan missed all of training camp due to his high demands but in recent days the two sides made progress in negotiations. Last season, O’Sullivan scored 22 goals and added 31 assists for 53 points. Hurricanes to pursue Brendan Shanahan? The Carolina Hurricanes have made plays for Glen Murray and Mark Parrish over the course of the summer. Thus far they have come up empty. In the market for a top 6 winger the Canes may now make a pitch for Brendan Shanahan. Expect a lot of different line combinations the next couple weeks. Therrien may even look into splitting up Staal and Malkin if he doesn’t find the right combination for Crosby. Pascal Dupuis could be on the verge of falling to the fourth line, according to a source. Some insiders I’ve talked to seem a bit worried about Miroslav Satan and don’t see him being much more than a 17-20 goal scorer. Heatley’s two goals power Senators to 3-1 win
Ottawa 3 – Pittsburgh 1 Ottawa Senators RW Dany Heatley scored two power play goals to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The goaltending was strong in this game as Senators G Alex Auld made 30 saves and was on the verge of a shutout until rookie defenseman Alex Goligoski scored his 1st career NHL goal with 1.1 seconds left in the third period. Penguins goaltender Marc Andre Fleury played well enough for the Penguins to win but the Ottawa Senators won the special teams game scoring two power play goals. The Penguins power play continues to struggle without D Sergei Gonchar. The Penguins went 1-for-7 on the day and finished the weekend 1-14.
