Pittsburgh Penguins billionaire co-owner Ron Burkle has shown an interest in owning a Major League Baseball club, expressing interest with Mario Lemieux in the Pittsburgh Pirates some 15 months ago. Burkle is now a player for one of baseballs most storied franchises.
The Pirates asking price continues to be very high for Jack Wilson and the Dodgers, a team that has shown interest in Wilson since the trade deadline continue to balk at the Pirates demands according to Fox Sports Ken Rosenthal. Rosenthal reports the Pirates asking price is young shortstop Chin-Lung Hu and two other prospects. These are the same demands the Pirates had at the trade deadline in talks with the Dodgers. If the Pirates demands don‚Äôt come down, Wilson will be in a Pirates uniform¬†when spring training¬†begins.¬†Wilson is set to earn $7.25MM in ’09 and has a $8.4MM option for ’10 with a $600K buyout. In A highly tested game, the LA Dodgers fought back to win game 3 and make it a series. Blake DeWitt’s bases-loaded triple off Jamie Moyer capped a five-run first inning, and the Dodgers beat the Phillies 7-2 Sunday night to trim Philadelphia’s lead to 2-1 in the best-of-seven series. emptied in the third inning, moments after Los Angeles starter Hiroki Kuroda threw a pitch over Shane Victorino’s head. Kuroda who was only 9-10 during the regular season has been very good for the Dodgers in the post season. Kuroda pitched effectively into the seventh inning. The announced attendance of 56,800 — 800 more than listed capacity — was the largest in Dodger Stadium history. Now, on to Game 4, with Derek Lowe facing Joe Blanton. A matchup that should favor the Dodgers.

James Loney not Manny Ramirez carried the Dodgers offense tonight hitting a grand slam in the 5th inning off of Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster. Dempster a 14 game winner at Wrigley Field struggled with his command walking seven batters. The Dodgers got a strong performance from veteran Derek Lowe. Lowe pitched six innings striking out six.
