Penguins fall to Rangers 3-2 in shootout

New York 3 – Pittsburgh 2 The Penguins lost their seventh consecutive game at Madison Square Garden and this was a game the Penguins should have won. The Penguins got out to a 2-0 lead. Mark Eaton scored his first goal in 91 games. Eaton jumped into the play and banged home a beautiful pass from Sidney Crosby. Crosby was by far the best player on the ice tonight. Jordan Staal recorded his eight goal of the season in the second period. Petr Prucha (1st goal of the season) and Nikolai Zherdev scored for the Rangers. Prucha had been a healthy scratch for the previous 10 games. A lot of scouts in the building. In the shootout, Markus Naslund, Nikolai Zherdev and Fredrik Sjostrom had shootout goals for the Rangers. Kris Letang was the Penguins only goal scorer in the shootout. Zigomanis, Kennedy injured: Center Mike Zigomanis and right wingerRead More »

Day 3 NHL Free Agency

12:25 a.m. thats it for the night…….everyone have a great holiday…..few updates in the morning back with full coverage over the weekend….. It’s been a pleasure again….. 11:05 p.m. Going into chat in the comments form found at the end of the page 10:37 p.m. The latest on Jagr from one of my insiders — “Jagr and Lemieux had a long talk during the playoff series. Lemieux told Jags that he saw the old fire in his eyes. It somehow got to the statement Jagr made at one point about wanting to finish his career in Pittsburgh. Lemieux said if Jagr was ever available, he would love to see him in a Penguin uniform. Something about unfinished business and trying to clear the animosity the Pens fans had with Jagr. The Pens put it out there and Jagr hesitated, so I don’t know if it will go any further. I don’tRead More »

Day 2 NHL Free Agency

Day 3 8:40 a.m. – This is what I got right now. Jagr a longshot. Naslund is also looking like a longshot. Most of Naslunds efforts are with the New York Rangers, Vancouver and Minnesota. With Fleurys contract the pens are down to 8 million in cap space with 4 roster sports to fill. Shero looking at older veterans but i was told to lower the expectations. Hearing Jason Williams , Mirsolav Satan and this morning. A lot of pressure on Shero to get a top 6 winger via trade. gotta run… update later. 1:08 a.m. Penguins expect decision from Naslund tomorrow. Talks intensifying with Matt Cooke. Cooke is also in talks with two other teams. Despite Penguins breaking off talks with Bertuzzi, Penguins still interested if his demands come down. Big news of the night — sources are confirming that the Penguins have signed Marc Andre Fleury to aRead More »

Day 1 NHL Free Agency Frenzy; Live Updates

Day 2 12:58 a.m. There is a 1yr 1.75 million offer on the table to forward Todd Bertuzzi. Bertuzzi is believed to be looking over three other offers with Calgary among the interested parties. With all of this talk of Jagr, I wouldn’t look past Markus Naslund who has been on the Penguins radar since the clock struck noon on July 1. Source tell TIOPS Ray Shero is taking calls regarding Ryan Whitney and listening to offers but it appears ownership wants Whitney to stay put. Penguins expect a decision from Jarkko Ruutu by Wednesday morning. No offer has been made to Jason Smith but the interest is there. The Penguins have yet to meet the demands of Brooks Orpik (6yrs – 22 million) but the two sides are still in discussions. Penguins offer to Hossa is for 7.2 million per season. The amount of years is up in theRead More »
