The Latest Steelers Buzz: Steelers to open up talks with Heath Miller in March

 

Free Agency begins on February 27th The Steelers have been involved in contract talks with James Harrison for about 7 days now. Reports indicate Harrison‚Äôs agent will meet with the Steelers at the combine. Talks with Heath Miller will begin in March once the Steelers priorities in free agency are taking care of. Miller is just as much of a priority for the Steelers as anyone. They have no intention of him entering 09 without a long-term extension. Jason Witten received a $6 year – $28 million contract a few seasons ago. Miller doesn‚Äôt put up the numbers Witten does but is regarded as the most complete tight end in the game. NFL: Steelers to begin negotiations with Max Starks next week

 

Inside Pittsburgh Sports has learned the Steelers top priorty will be starting left tackle Max Starks this off-season. Starks, 27, Signed a one-year, $6.895 million contract last off-season and many fans questioned the signing as Starks opened the season on the bench. After starting the Steelers final 13 games (including playoffs) at left tackle, Starks is the Steelers top priority as the team has a late start on their off-season planning after winning Super Bowl XLIII. The Steelers are expected to begin negotiations with Starks representatives next week in the hopes of signing Starks to a long-term deal before free agency begins on February 27th. Mike Tomlin and defensive coordinator Dick Lebeau deserve a lot of credit for the team’s success on the field but Kevin Colbert deserves a lot of credit for constructing a Super Bowl champion. The Steelers got minimal production from their 08 draft but Colbert make key draft picks in 07 such as Lawrence Timmons, William Gay who didn’t make much of a impact in 07 but were unsung players on the 08 team. I doubt there are many fans questioning the team drafting Lawrence Timmons now. He’s going to be a special player next year. 2007 Second round pick LaMarr Woodley who has 8 sacks in four career post-season games is developing into one of the games top linebackers. Practice Report: Number of players miss practice

 

Mike Tomlin’s main goal this week is to keep his players focused on the main prize. Tomlin stressed that at yesterday’s press conference and the Steelers will practice this week like they have a game on Sunday. The Steelers went through a normal workout today, and will do the same on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before they depart for Tampa Bay on Monday. In today’s practice a number of players were out with injuries and others took the day off. Injured players WR Hines Ward (Knee Sprain) ,Lt Max Starks (knee), RB Mewelde Moore (ankle), Patrick Bailey (Hamstring), C Justin Hartwig (Knee) did not practice.
