Practice Report: 7 players participate in optional practice

 

Quiet day at Mellon Arena this morning as the Penguins held an optional practice. As expected, a number of veterans took the day off, as seven skaters are currently on the ice. Marc Andre Fleury coming off a 45 save performance is not participating in the optional skate Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar and Bill Guerin are among a group of key veterans who also opted not to skate. The Penguins just wrapped up their morning practice at Mellon Arena which began around 10:30 a.m. Very interesting line changes in today’s practice Miroslav Satan skated with Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora on the second line, alternating with Ruslan Fedotenko. Satan, Fedotenko and Sykora alternated on Malkin’s wing throughout the practice. Yesterday, Satan was on the annual 5th playoff line and even took a shift or two on D as a fill in. Morning Practice Notes, Penguins prepare for Flyers

 

The Penguins went through their first practice of the playoff season this morning at 10:30 a.m. as the team prepares to take on the Philadelphia Flyers Wednesday night in the first round of the playoffs. The teams primary goal was to claim the 4th seed but going into the weekend with Philadelphia having two games in hand, and Carolina owning a tiebreaker, the players were not very optimistic and were expecting to start the playoffs on the road. All of that changed yesterday when the Rangers rallied to upend the Flyers 4-3. Practice Notes All 23 skaters were accounted for this morning. The Penguins went through a 50 minute workout this morning that began around 11:00 a.m. Forward Miroslav Satan did not practice but was at Mellon Arena talking to teammates and team personnel. Satan has cleared re-entry waivers and is currently on the trip to Montreal with the Penguins Max Talbot and Hal Gill were both practicing this morning. Updated: 12:00 p.m. – Miroslav Satan was not claimed on re-entry waivers and has joined the team. Satan is traveling with the team to Montreal. Organization eyes Kennedy as a top 6 forward in 09? The Penguins are encouraged by the how right winger Tyler Kennedy has progressed from year 1 to year 2. Kennedy notched his 15th goal of the season Thursday night and has elevated his play over the past 5 weeks. Kennedy will be under consideration of making the jump as a top 6 forward prior to training camp. Satan on re-entry waivers, will join team today

 

As expected forward Miroslav Satan will join the Penguins for the playoffs. Satan has been placed on re-entry waivers and will join the team on Friday. Satan will travel with the team to Montreal this weekend according to a team source. The plan since the Penguins re-assigned Satan, was to bring him up for the playoffs where there is no salary cap. The Penguins March to the playoffs continued on Friday with a 4-1 win over the Los Angeles Kings. Pittsburgh is now 10-0-2 in their last 12 games and the Penguins have scored 16 goals in their last three games. The Penguins have a divisional showdown with the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday at Mellon Arena. The Flyers and Penguins are tied with 86 points but the Flyers currently have three games in hand. Great turnout from Penguins fans last night in Columbus. The place was electric when the Penguins tied the game at 3-3 late in the third period. Thanks to the traveling Penguins fans, the BlueJackets set a record for attendance with over 19,000 fans in attendance. The Penguins have 10 come from behind wins this season when trailing in the third period and after being down 3-0 to Columbus, the Penguins were fortunate to get a point out of last night‚Äôs game. NHL: Miroslav Satan will report to WB/S

 

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Miroslav Satan have reached an agreement. Satan will report to Wilkes Barre. The two sides held discussions early this week about Satan’s options but Pittsburgh does not have ability to add Satan to the roster with defenseman Philippe Boucher expected to come off of IR in 10 days.
