Sunday Morning Quick Hits

The Penguins practice this morning at 11:30 a.m. Although the Penguins are coming off of an embarrassing 6-1 loss to the Panthers and are in the midst of a four game losing streak, don’t expect the Penguins to endure a long grueling practice this morning. The team has four games this week. Miroslav Satan has four goals in his last 26 games and has been non-existent during that stretch. Satan was dropped to the fourth line on Saturday. Therrien has proved in the past that he won’t play players in roles that they were brought in for, if they are not producing. Nils Ekman is a good example of that. Therrien’s hand has been forced in regards to Satan but

Following tonight’s 5-2 loss, the Penguins players held a players only meeting. The Bruins were convincing tonight winning their ninth straight game as they continue their climb in the Standings. Boston 60 pts ‚Äì Pittsburgh 42 pts In Sidney Crosby‚Äôs post game remarks he said he isn‚Äôt ready concede that the Bruins are the team to beat in the Eastern Conference. Crosby said ‚ÄúThere’s not much separating each team, they’re disciplined in the way they play and capitalized on the chances they got, and that’s what good teams do,” “But it’s not a

Crosby nets OT Winner

Evgeni Malkin and Alex Goligoski each recorded three points and Sidney Crosby snapped a 9 game scoreless streak, netting the OT winner 43 seconds into overtime as the Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 Monday night at HSBC arena. Crosby’s OT winner was under review for over a minute, whether Crosby’s stick was over the goal post when he deflected Evgeni Malkin’s fluttering slap shot. The Penguins overcame a 2-0 deficit and it appeared that the Penguins may have been on their way to a 6th loss in eight games until Alex Goligoski scored his second goal of the game at 11:17 of the third period to tie the game at 3-3. Pascal Dupuis also scored for the Penguins,

Game 27: Penguins fall to Sabres 4-3

Post Game Thoughts Defensive breakdowns and the failure to put the Sabres away on the power play was the story of the game. This was clearly a game the Penguins gave away. Head coach Michel Therrien said it best in his post game comments, “It was a horrible performance That’s the truth.” Tonight’s loss overshadowed the performance of Evgeni Malkin who was clearly the best player on the ice. It is a common theme that the Penguins are carried offensively by either Malkin or Crosby on any given night. Malkin had two assists and Sidney Crosby had 1 assist. Malkin played a part in the Penguins first two goals which were scored by Ruslan Fedotenko and Sidney Crosby assisted on

Inside Look at the Pittsburgh Penguins

Penguins fall to Devils 2-1 The most glaring stat of last night‚Äôs loss was the Penguins were outshot 49-15 by the New Jersey Devils. The Devils controlled the play, won loose pucks and they were the more physical team. Michel Therrien said it best last night when he said his team ‚Äúdidn‚Äôt work‚Äù. Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury was phenomenal and nearly stole two points away from the Devils if it wasn‚Äôt for a fluke goal off of Hal Gill’s skate. A concern for me was the Devils were the faster team. They showed a lot more team speed than the Penguins did Saturday night. The Penguins power play is now 2-18 on the season after going 1-4 against the Devils

News and Notes

The Penguins arrived in Pittsburgh around midnight and had the day off today. The Penguins will resume practice tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m. Some notable players including Peter Schaefer and Kyle Mclaren have hit the waiver wire but indications are the Penguins will stand pat and not make any moves. The Penguins are pleased with the play of the team and don’t seem worried about the power play going 1-14. There has been a bit of a spin game, with a lot of insiders speaking very highly of the Senators, saying they are a much better team than last year. “The ice was awful and the team is still trying to find its continuity with Sergei Gonchar sidelined has been

Lemieux told Jags that he saw the old fire in his eyes. It somehow got to the statement Jagr made at one point about wanting to finish his career in Pittsburgh. Lemieux said if Jagr was ever available, he would love to see him in a Penguin uniform. Something about unfinished business and trying
