Pittsburgh Steelers inactives Defensive end Nick Eason is inactive for the Steelers. The Steelers other inactives are Keenan Lewis, Charlie Batch, Chris Kemoeatu, Troy Polamalu, Tony Hills and Sunny Harris. LB Rocky Boiman and Cornerback Corey Ivy will suit up for their first game in a Steelers uniform. Both players will be on the Steelers kick coverage unit. Travis Kirschke will start at LDE and Ziggy Hood will back him up. Ben Roethlisberger is active and will serve as the Steelers No. 3 quarterback. For the Ravens, Ed Reed is active but Terrell Suggs is inactive.
Monday Practice Report By Mike Bires If Ryan Clark has already decided not to play in Denver, he and coach Mike Tomlin aren’t saying. On Monday when the Steelers returned to practice after their bye week, Clark refused to address his personal health issue to the media. The highly regarded free safety said, “I’ve got nothing else to say. Ask Coach Tomlin.” As a sickle cell trait carrier, Clark experienced severe health problems the last time the Steelers played at Invesco Field at Mile High. In a loss to the Broncos on Oct. 21, 2007, the combination of over-exerting himself in the game and low oxygen levels in the Rocky Mountain air caused Clark’s blood to negatively affect his spleen.
Now that Aaron Smith is done for the year, playing time for Ziggy Hood should increase. Hood, the Steelers’s first-round pick in this year’s draft, won’t start at left defensive end Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. But he’s in the mix of replacements who’ll try to measure up to the high standards set by Smith over the years. “It will probably be a committee of bodies trying to fill (Smith’s) void,” coach Mike Tomlin. “The usual suspects: Travis Kirschke, Nick Eason and Ziggy Hood.”
