Steelers playoff hopes sacked by lowly Browns

Steelers lose fifth straight game Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin promised changes following the Steelers embarrassing 27-24 loss to the Oakland Raiders in week 13 but Thursday night it was more of the same as the Steelers playoff hopes were dashed by the 2-11 Cleveland Browns. The Browns handed the Super Bowl champions their fifth straight loss, defeating the Steelers 13-6 for their first win against Pittsburgh since 2003. The win for Cleveland was their Super Bowl, while barring an foreseen miracle, the Steelers title defense is all but over before the playoffs even started. After a 6-2 start, the Steelers stunning collapse in the second half of the season has happened at the hands of three of the worst teams {Oakland, Cleveland, Kansas City} in the AFC, who have a combined record of 9-28. “We’ve found new and different ways to not rise up at critical moments andRead More »

Steelers being exposed as losing streak reaches four

The Steelers losing streak extended to four games Sunday afternoon as the Steelers suffered yet another stunning loss, this time to the Oakland Raiders and a journeyman quarterback who didn’t have a job at the start of the regular season. Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski threw 3 fourth quarter touchdowns including a 11 yard touchdown pass to Louis Murphy with nine seconds remaining as the Raiders stunned Pittsburgh 27-24. The Steelers went ahead 24-20 on Ben Roethlisberger’s 11 yard touchdown pass to Hines Ward with 1:56 remaining, only to have Gradkowski and the Raiders go 10 plays and 88 yards for the game winning score. The loss puts the Steelers (6-6) in serious danger of missing playoffs, after winning the Super Bowl for a second time in four seasons. The offense stumbled for the most part in the first three quarters but delivered in the fourth quarter when it counted andRead More »

NFL: Leftwich has strong desire to play for the Redskins

Since free agency began, the agent for Byron Leftwich has been trying to gauge interest from the Washington Redskins. Leftwich has a strong desire to play in his home-town and believes he can beat out Jason Campbell. Leftwich may get his wish as the Washington Post reports, Leftwich met with Redskins representatives on Friday. The Steelers and the Redskins are the only teams Leftwich is currently talking too.

2009 NFL Mock Draft Version 2

Free Preview 1) DETROIT LIONS> MATTHEW STAFFORD, QB, GEORGIA- With Sam Bradford returning to Oklahoma for another season, Stafford holds on to the top selection. Sanchez has closed the gap between him and Stafford, but I still think that Stafford is the better selection. Stafford has a stronger arm and he has greatly improved his decision making this season. Sanchez is more of a project, he has significant injury issues, and he tends to make the stupid decisions that Stafford would make last year. 2) ST. LOUIS RAMS> ANDRE SMITH, OT, ALABAMA- I don‚Äôt see any reason to change this pick as a result of Smith‚Äôs issues at Alabama. They don‚Äôt seem like the kind of behavioral issues that would seriously hurt his draft stock and the Rams are still looking to beef up the O-Line, which they failed to do last year by missing out on Jake Long. 3)Read More »

NFL Mock Draft Version 1

Our first NFL Mock is now available. We will be doing 2-3 mock drafts¬†per month leading¬†up until the NFL Draft in April. (Photo courtesy of SD Dirk) 1. DETROIT LIONS,¬†MATTHEW STAFFORD, QB, GEORGIA (6-2 235 lbs) – I really do not believe that either Stafford or Bradford is worthy of the top selection in this year‚Äôs draft, but the Lions need at the position is probably going to force them into the selection. Stafford has the big arm and is probably the safer pick at this point. With that said, both Bradford and Stafford are not definitely entering the draft. If (and I don‚Äôt see this happening) both Stafford and Bradford remain in school for another season there is not a quarterback worthy of the top selection. Two other options for the Lions are to either address the offensive line by drafting Andre Smith or Michael Oher, or they couldRead More »
