Pitt scores 18 points in 4th quarter to beat Syracuse 34-24

The Syracuse Orange had the Pitt Panthers on the verge of a loss that could have had major implications to the Panthers coaching staff. Down 24 – 16 in the third quarter Pitt fought back and scored 18 unanswered points to beat the Orange 34-24 in Syracuse. LeSean McCoy and LaRod Stephens-Howling led the Panthers comeback combining for 218 rushing yards. Stephens – Howling’s 3 yard touchdown run with 3:22 left in the fourth quarter was the difference maker. More to come in Sunday’s edition.

Pitt v. Syracuse Preview

PITT v. Iowa Wrap Up Pitt reclaimed some of the high expectations it had in August, beating the 3-1 Iowa Hawkeyes 21-20. The Panthers were 3 for 3 on 4th down conversions, which led to all three of their Touchdowns. The offense was adequate and LeSean McCoy made some big plays when the team needed them most. The defense was a little soft on the run early, but tightened down in the fourth quarter, saved the game and had six sacks on the day. NCAA: Jamie Dixon to sign extension?

Pitt Men’s Basketball coach Jamie Dixon is expected to sign a three year extension that will keep him under contract through the 2015-2016 season. Dixon entering his 6th season as head coach had led the Panthers to 5 consecutive NCAA tournaments. The Panthers have called a press conference this morning to announce the extension. Post-Gazette

Pitt (1-1) vs Iowa (3-0) Preview

PITT v. Buffalo Wrap Up Pitt had an lackluster performance until the 4th Quarter when they opened up the offense and utilized their deep receiving corp. It was great to see T.J. Porter, Oderick Turner and Cedric McGee make some plays. Bill Stull did a great job of spreading the ball around. The defense played solidly and LeSean McCoy had 3 touchdowns. It all added up to a 27-16 Panthers victory.

Pitt Panthers Quick Hits

Pitt senior middle linebacker Scott McKillop has been named the Big East Defensive Player of the Week. McKillop had 15 tackles and 1 tackle for loss against the Buffalo Bulls Saturday night. The university of Pittsburgh Athletic Department has announced The Pitt-Iowa game on Sept. 20 will be a noon kickoff and be nationally televised by either ESPN or ESPN2. Pitt is 2-1 all-time against Iowa. Erie’s A.J. Fenton is scheduled to make an official visit to Pitt on Saturday September 20th. Fenton has a written offer on the table from Pitt. Fenton visited Wisconsin this past Saturday.

Pitt improves to 1-1; defeats Buffalo 27-16

The Buffalo Bulls gave the Pitt Panthers a bit of a scare at Heinz Field Saturday evening. The Bulls got out to a 6-0 lead after the first quarter and went to the locker room down 10-9. The Bulls kept it close until the fourth quarter when Panthers running back LeSean McCoy scored a 2 yard touchdown on a 10 play – 74 yard drive that took up 4:40. It was McCoy’s third touchdown of the game and the score put the Panthers up 24-16 midway through the 4th quarter. Kicker Connor Lee put the game away on the Panthers next drive converting a 42 yard field goal to put the Panthers up by 11.

Pitt vs Buffalo Preview

PITT v. Bowling Green Wrap Up Pitt was more talented than Bowling Green, but they did not play 4 quarters of football. Bowling Green’s Spread Offensive Attack led by Junior Tyler Sheehan played efficiently and did not turn the ball over. The Bowling Green defense was opportunistic and made plays when they had too. In the end, Bowling Green defeated Pitt 27-17.
