Penguins fall to Rangers 3-2 in shootout

New York 3 – Pittsburgh 2 The Penguins lost their seventh consecutive game at Madison Square Garden and this was a game the Penguins should have won. The Penguins got out to a 2-0 lead. Mark Eaton scored his first goal in 91 games. Eaton jumped into the play and banged home a beautiful pass from Sidney Crosby. Crosby was by far the best player on the ice tonight. Jordan Staal recorded his eight goal of the season in the second period. Petr Prucha (1st goal of the season) and Nikolai Zherdev scored for the Rangers. Prucha had been a healthy scratch for the previous 10 games. A lot of scouts in the building. In the shootout, Markus Naslund, Nikolai Zherdev and Fredrik Sjostrom had shootout goals for the Rangers. Pittsburgh Penguins (14-6-3-31) at New York Rangers (17-8-2-36) Penguins took the ice at 11:30 a.m. for their morning skate as they prepare for the New York Rangers. Lines are the same as they were for practice this week. Talbot – Crosby – Satan Fedotenko – Malkin – Sykora Cooke – Staal – Kennedy Dupuis – Zigomanis – Godard *Marc Andre Fleury is currently on the ice. Fleury went on the ice after the Penguins to go through his own workout. Fleury will return next week according to source. Ryan Whitney is also skating and looks to be improving every time he steps on the ice. I’m told December 18th against Atlanta or the 20th against the Toronto Maple Leafs are being mentioned as a likely target date for Whitney’s return to the lineup. Photo courtesy of Dan4th

Rumors coming out of Russia indicate that former Pittsburgh Penguins star Jaromir Jagr has had a very difficult time with the death of teammate Alexei Cherepanov which has led to speculation that Jagr may be looking for a change of scenery and possibly tear up his contract and return to the NHL. There has also been some rumblings that Omsk is in financial trouble but team officials have denied reports that Jagr hasn’t received all of his money that has been promised to this point Article from Russian Newspaper: “Recently in the Russian press the loud news appeared: the main star of continental hockey the leagues Of [Jaromir] Of [Jagr] it is so detuned because of the tragic loss of its partner in the Omsk ‚Äúadvance guard‚Äù of Aleksey Cherepanov, which is assembled to leave command. ‚ÄúIzvestiya‚Äù turned to the agent attacking Yaroslav [Zideku], who ‚Äúsensation‚Äù refuted: – This isRead More »

Monday’s Practice Report; Crosby named 1st star

Goaltender Marc Andre Fleury, and defensemen Phillipe Boucher, Ryan Whitney did not practice today. Fleury has been skating on his own and was in the building working out. Still no official word on Boucher. The coaching staff made some minor line changes. Talbot – Crosby – Satan Fedotenko – Malkin – Sykora Cooke – Staal – Kennedy Dupuis – Zigomanis – Godard * Fedotenko has moved from the 4th to the 2nd line. Pascal Dupuis a healthy scratch on Saturday is skating with the 4th line. In practice the Penguins started out with some flow drills. A lot of skating in these drills and the coaching staff had the players moving at all times. They did about 13-15 minutes of 1-on-1’s and 2-on-1’s. For the most part the defensemen owned the one-on-one drill. Ruslan Fedotenko scored a beautiful breakaway goal. He was skated very well and had a good practice.Read More »

The Latest Penguins Buzz; Sunday’s Rumor Mill

Pascal Dupuis a healthy scratch Saturday night has gone 14 games without a goal. His days of playing on the top two lines needs to end but the coaching staff likes his defensive zone play which keeps getting him minutes on the first or second line. As expected the Penguins re-assigned Janne Pesonen to WBS following last night’s game. Here‚Äôs what I‚Äôm hearing that the Penguins blueline will be when Ryan Whitney is healthy. Orpik, Letang, Whitney, Boucher, Gill, Scuderi. (7th Goligoski and 8th Eaton). I still think Alex Goligoski will be AHL bound when the Penguins blueline is healthy if he is not moved for a top 6 forward. A early target date for Whitney is believed to be December 8th when the Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres. The Latest on the Penguins pursuit of a top 6 forward. Talks are on-going between the Penguins and a Western ConferenceRead More »

Penguins fall to Sabres 4-3

Post Game Thoughts The Penguins couldn‚Äôt hold on to a 3-2 lead going into the third period. The Penguins were outshot 10-3 in the third period and failed to put away the game early in the third when they began the period with a 5 on 3 power play for 53 seconds. The Penguins power play which ranks dead last on the road burned them tonight. The Penguins were 0-7 on the night. The Sabres were very aggressive on the penalty kill. John Curry played very well making 28 saves on 32 shots. He did what he needed to do for the Penguins to win tonight. It was good to see him perform well tonight. Sidney Crosby (2 goals) and Evgeni Malkin (2 assists) continue to carry the Penguins offensively. I Thought Michel Therrien might have went away from the Crosby/Sykora/Malkin unit a bit early in the third period afterRead More »
