Penguins suffer third straight loss

New Jersey 4 – Pittsburgh 1 New Jersey Devils backup goaltender Scott Clemmensen made 26 saves to improve to 7-1 in his last eight starts as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Pittsburgh Penguins 4-1 Wednesday night. Pittsburgh who has lost three straight did not get a very good performance from Dany Sabourin who struggled for the second consecutive game. Travis Zajac, Zach Parise, Dainius Zubrus and Patrik Elias scored for the Devils, who won for the eighth time in nine games. The Devils (15-8-2) are within two points of the Penguins for second place in the Atlantic division. NHL: Consol Energy Arena?

KDKA.com reports Consol Energy has won the naming rights to the Pittsburgh Penguins new arena which will open in the fall of 2010. According to the report, next week, the Penguins will announce the sale of the arena naming rights to Consol on a long term basis for at least several million dollars a year. The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned forward Janne Pesonen to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL) Pesonen, 26, appeared in three games during his latest stint with Pittsburgh. He has played in six games for the Penguins, this year, making his NHL debut in St. Louis on November 1. He played 20 games for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, leading the team in assists (16) and ranking third with 21 points (five goals, 16 assists) at the time of his recall. In the preseason with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pesonen scored two points in three appearances.

Hal Gill out 2-4 weeks

Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Hal Gill will miss two to four weeks with a shoulder injury, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero. Gill suffered the injury on December 6 at Ottawa during the third period.
