NFL: Parker out until week 7?


Pittsburgh Steelers running back Willie Parker is expected to be out until week 7. Parker has been ruled out for Monday night’s divisional showdown with the Baltimore Ravens and Steelers bear writer Ed Bouchette has confirmed an AP Report that Parker will miss the Steelers week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Steelers have a bye on week 6. The Steelers 2008 1st round pick Rashard Mendenhall will become the team’s primary back. Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had an extensive meeting with his offensive coaches yesterday. Roethlisberger doesn’t believe the coaching staff and players were on the same page Sunday afternoon against the Eagles. The Steelers rank dead last in completions to running backs. During OTA’s Insiders raved about Mewelde Moore’s ability to catch the ball out of the back field and some even compared him to Kevin Faulk. With Willie Parker sidelined it will be interesting to see if the Steelers utilize Moore in the passing game.

The Eagles defense was on a mission this afternoon to put their performance from last Monday night behind them. The Philadelphia Eagles defense pressured all game and the Steelers offensive line failed to find a way to contain the Eagles blitzing schemes. The Eagles finished the game with 9 sacks and forced Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger out of the game late in the fourth quarter. Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb started the game 15-for-15 and the Eagles offense seemed poised for another 30+ game.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have announced they have released running back Gary Russell and promoted linebacker Patrick Bailey. Russell originally made the Steelers roster as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2007. With the additions of Rashard Mendenhall and Mewelde Moore, Russell became expendable.
