The Steelers returned to practice today after being off since Thursday. Willie Parker, Brett Keisel, Jeff Reed and Marvel Smith are expected to play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will be sidelined for another week. Despite Willie Parker returning to the lineup this week, the Steelers plan to give Mewelde Moore close to ten touches (not including punt returns) Tuesday is the NFL’s trade deadline and the Steelers are listening to offers for Max Starks but as of this afternoon they haven’t received one call about the availability of Starks

NFL: Harrison fined 20K

League officials have slapped Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro linebacker James Harrison with a $20,000 fine for comments he made following last Sunday night’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Harrison who leads the Steelers with 6.5 sacks had this say regarding a questionable roughing the passer call: “Ridiculous call,” Harrison said of the penalty. “You don’t make a call like that. Unless (the official) might have money on it.” Source: Fox Sports

The Latest Steelers Buzz

The bye week could not come at a better time for the Steelers. Brett Keisel and Willie Parker are expected to return in week 7. Hampton’s status remains uncertain. Jeff Reed should be ready to go for Cincinnati. No word on Marvel Smith Despite a depleted defensive line, opponents are averaging less than 3.0 yards per carry against the Steelers Clark Haggans (4) and James Harrison (9) combined for 13 sacks last season. Through five games LaMarr Woodley (5.5) and James Harrison (6.5) have combined for 12 sacks. The pressure the Steelers are bringing from the outside is the major difference between this years D compared to last years D. The athleticism of Lawrence Timmons has added another dimension to go along with Troy Polamalu playing his best football since the 2005 season.

Fantasy Football Focus

Should you pick up Nate Washington? Steelers WR Nate Washington caught a career-high six passes for 94 yards and a score Sunday night in Jacksonville. The Steelers will have games where they will throw the ball 35-40 times but Washington is nothing more than a 4th or 5th receiver regarding fantasy value Hines Ward had a strong game catching seven passes for 90 yards and a score. Ward is a nice receiver to have as your #3 option but he‚Äôs a risk as a #2. Mewelde Moore‚Äôs value goes down with Willie Parker returning next week but hold onto him for at least another two weeks to see how the carries play out Broncos WR Eddie Royals stock has plummeted but because of the potential touches he could have in any game, keep him on your roster but he‚Äôs not an every week starter. Roethlisberger throws 3 TD’s to lead Steelers to 26-21 Win

The Pittsburgh Steelers outgained the Jacksonville Jaguars 415 ‚Äì 213 but they needed a late 4th quarter drive to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 26-21 and improve to 4-1 on the season. Ben Roethlisberger was phenomenal throwing for 309 yards and 3 touchdowns. Late in the fourth quarter Roethlisberger led the Steelers on a 11 play ‚Äì 80 yard drive and hit Hines Ward on a 8 yard fade pass to put the Steelers up by 5 with 1:53 remaining. Roethlisberger misfired on the 2-point conversion, but Pittsburgh’s defense sealed the win as the Jaguars turned the ball over on downs. Roethisberger finished the night going 26-41 and snapped the Steelers four game losing streak against Jacksonville. Steelers running back Willie Parker was sidelined for the second consecutive game but the Steelers didn‚Äôt miss a beat. Third down back Mewelde Moore ran 17 times for 99 yards to go along withRead More »

Fantasy Football: What Steelers to play this week

1. QB Ben Roethlisberger ‚Äì’s Adam Schefter reports that Ben Roethlisberger (questionable, shoulder) will “try to play” Sunday in Jacksonville. I wouldn‚Äôt look too much into that report. The Steelers are going to throw early and often tonight. Start Ben 2. Santonio Holmes ‚Äì the no-huddle offense will benefit Holmes. The Steelers ran formations in practice where Holmes was the primary target on quick slants and outs. Holmes will also see some time in the punt return game. There was a few occasions where he had some open scenes against the Ravens and could have made a big play. Holmes goes against a weak Jaguars secondary and look for him to be effective 3. Mewelde Moore ‚Äì If you have running backs on byes, Moore is not a bad pickup for this week. He will be used out of the backfield. Final Word: Keep Willie Parker on your roster:Read More »

Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions Take the Bears and the points DePaoli‚Äôs Pick ‚Äì Chicago Atlanta Falcons at Green Bay Packers Aaron Rogers is questionable. This is a winnable game for Atlanta who will look to pound the ball between the tackles. Ben Roethlisberger is calling for the no-huddle offense early and often. Ben is also calling for the Steelers to run quicker and shorter routes. Most notably Santonio Holmes. The Steelers have Holmes running too many deep routes but that may change with the no huddle offense. Look for Holmes to be Roethisberger‚Äôs primary target on quick slants and quick outs. The Steelers need to get him involved in the offense more on short quick throws and let him use his playmaking ability for gaining yards after the catch Gary Russell is expected to get 6-8 touches Sunday night. Sean McHugh will see some time at fullback. Mewelde Moore may have his biggest impact in the passing game against the Jaguars. The Steelers have worked extensively this week on using Moore out of the back field on dump offs. Mike Tomlin has been very high on Darnell Stapleton for some timeRead More »

NFL: Is Tennessee the AFC’s top team?

Parity is in the air this season. You can make a argument for six-eight teams right now that could be considered the best team in the AFC. That is how wide open the AFC is right now. Last year San Diego, New England and Indianapolis were a step ahead of the rest. That is not the case through the first four weeks of the season New England (2-1) lost Tom Brady and they are no longer the force they were last season. Indianapolis (1-2) has struggled defensively and their offense hasn‚Äôt found their groom. I wouldn‚Äôt write them off just yet but their clearly not the team they use to be San Diego at (2-2) remains one of the most talented teams in the AFC but defensively they have struggled to keep opponents off the scoreboard. Something about Phillips Rivers rubs me the wrong way and I‚Äôll go on theRead More »
