STEELERS FREE AGENCY BUZZ Out of the Steelers 17 unrestricted free agents, several won’t be back, and few are a priority for the team who don’t plan to resign notable veterans Max Starks and Casey Hampton, and expect Mike Wallace and Ramon Foster to sign bigger deals elsewhere. The Steelers today are meeting with WR Steve Breaston at their team facility and there continues to be a sense that the Steelers get a deal done with Breaston at some point for the sole reason that there’s really not a market out there for the 29 year old receiver. Steelers to sign Breaston, release Cotchery?

 

Jason LaCanfora of CBSSports.com calls the Pittsburgh Steelers a favorite to sign 29 year old receiver Steve Breaston. The Steelers are meeting with Breaston’s representatives today in Indianapolis and offensive coordinator Todd Haley continues to push hard for a possible reunion with Breaston who had 61 receptions in 2011 under Haley and a career best 1,006 receiving yards in 2008 with the Arizona Cardinals, Haley’s last season in Arizona as offensive coordinator. The buzz in Indianapolis regarding the Steelers and Breaston is that Jerricho Cotchery’s future with the team could be tied to Breaston. Rumblings are Cotchery will be released were the Steelers to sign Breaston. Due to the connection to Todd Haley and fit in his offense, the Steelers plan to gauge what Breaston is looking for from a role to money as the Steelers head into free agency next month. There appears to be some interest from the Steelers. Breaston’s representatives plan to meet with the Steelers this week in Indianapolis. It only took minutes after wide receiver Steve Breaston was released today by the Kansas City Chiefs for the speculation of Breaston joining Todd Haley in Pittsburgh to start up. Regarded as a favorite of Todd Haley’s, Breaston had just 7 receptions for 74 yards and no touchdowns in 10 games for the Chiefs in 2012.
