Rangers fire Tom Renney; Tortorella under consideration

The New York Rangers have fired head coach Tom Renney with 21 games left in the season. The Rangers are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference and have only two wins in their last 12 games. TSN Insider Bob McKenzie speculated on NHL live that former Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Tortorella could likely take over as the Blueshirts next bench boss. The Rangers are looking to move to a more up-tempo system. Tortorella is expected to garner consideration from the Penguins this summer if they decide not to retain Interim head coach Dan Bylsma. All four NHL teams that opened the NHL season in Europe have now fired their head coaches this season.

Monday’s Rumor Mill; Tkachuk Bruins top target?

Boston media wants Tkachuk: The Boston Bruins have been linked to St. Louis Blues forward Keith Tkachuk for about a month now and Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe suggests the Bruins need a lefty to play the goal-line position on the power play. Of the players available at the March 4 trade deadline, St. Louis power forward Keith Tkachuk would be the most instant upgrade according to Shinzawa. It’s believed there has been a lot of pressure from the media to acquire Tkachuk. Tkachuk has submitted a list of 6 teams he would accept a trade too. Boston is on it. Pittsburgh I’m told is likely not on it because of where they are in the standings. According to
