Brad Thiessen named starter for AHL Eastern Conference All-Stars


Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins goaltender Brad Thiessen has been named a starter for the AHL Eastern Conference All-Stars. It was announced today Thiessen who has emerged as the No. 3 goaltender on the Penguins organizational season, is having an excellent season for the Baby Pens, posting a 17-3 record with a 2.06 GAA and .921 save percentage.

Farm Report: Lovejoy nets game winner in 6-4 win


Wilkes Barre 6 – Hershey 4 The Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals from Ryan Bayda (4) and Mark Letestu (1) but needed a three goal third period to hold off the Hershey Bears en route to a 6-4 win against the Bears Friday night at the Wachovia Center. The win was Wilkes Barre’s third straight as goaltender John Curry (29 saves) earned his fourth win of the season. Last week Wilkes Barre benefited from the return of forward Mark Letestu and this week it was the return of top defenseman Ben Lovejoy. Lovejoy was strong in his own end finishing the game with a +2 rating and scored the eventual game winner at 3:47 of the third period to put Wilkes Barre up 5-2 in the third. Farm Report: Wilkes Barre drops second straight game


Wilkes Barre, PA — In a game that had plenty of altercations, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers scored with 10 seconds remaining in the third period to upend the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 Saturday night at the Wachovia Center. The loss was the Penguins second straight loss as the Penguins fall to 1-2-0 on the season. After being shutout 3-0 Friday night, the inability to score goals has been an issue through the first three games of the season. The story of the game though was the middle of the second period which looked like a scene from the movie Slap Shot.
