The Steelers have signed Najeh Davinport which begs the question; What about Duce?? This move obviously shows that the Steelers don’t have any plans to give Duce Staley a shot at replacing Jerome Bettis due to his lackluster training camp. The issue i have with the Staley situation is if their not going to play him then why didn’t they cut him before Thursday nights game against Miami. Regardless if Duce sits on the bench all season or is released the Steelers are on the hook for Staleys 1.5 million salary. Before the Steelers jump the gun and hand the goaline job to Davinport; Staley should be given one last shot and see the field Monday night against the Jags.

What will Davinport bring to the table?
Najeh Davinport is a talented back but i do not know if he is the answer. There’s a reason the guy was passed up by 29 other teams. Whether it’s Davinport,Haynes or Staley, one of the three need to step up of Willie Parker will be burned out by week 10.

Notes from Thursdays game ….

Cedric Wilson was invisible in Thursday’s contest and get use to it Steeler fans because Wilson is not a #2 reciever in this league. It’s mindboggling how this guy had a free pass all training camp as the #2 after only having 26 receptions last season. One good game in the playoffs and he gets the job handed to him. That #2 spot should have been up for grabs and by midseason i envision Ward, Washington and Holmes on the depth chart. Management will regret getting rid of Quincy Morgan

“BuzzontheBurgh’s Insider report”

The Penguins are conducting a week long rookie camp before the veterans arrive on Thursday and all the talk has been about Evgeni Malkin and 2nd overall pick Jordan Staal. Both have looked great and the buzzontheburgh’s insiders have learned that Jordan Staal will be given a shot at making the big club despite just turning 18 on Sunday. Staal needs to work on his acceleration just a bit if he wants to crack the line-up this season. Word is defenseman Noah Welch has looked outstanding and doesn’t even belong to be attending the rookie camp. Welch is ready to make the jump to big club but his 2-way contract could hurt him and we could see a situation we saw last season when Ryan Whitney started the season in Wilkes Barrie because of his 2-way contract. Defensemen Paul Bissonnette (6ft3 212 lbs) has made great strides and has had a outstanding camp and Penguin fans are going to know this kid sooner than i thought. In the system the Penguins have 3 defenseman in Welch,Bissonnette and Letang who will be solid NHL’ers within the next 3 years. On the offensive side a few prospects have been disspointments. Center Ryan Stone ( 2nd round pick 03 ) has been a dissapointment thus far, same for Lw Jonathan Filewich. Stone will be vying for the 4th line center job that is up for grabs and Filewich is a winger who has some goal scoring potential in the NHL but he is a long shot to make the opening day roster.

With the arrival of Malkin the buzzontheburgh is optimistic that the Penguins will be competing for a playoff spot but were one of the few who believe that… Check out Foxsports Penguins preview on the link below ……Penguins Preview
