Day 4: Don’t be alarmed about Roethlisberger’s slow start to camp
By Mike Bires
LATROBE _ Don’t be alarmed, Steelers Nation. Ben Roethlisberger is not having a bad camp.
It’s just that his right arm is not in tip-top shape just yet.
“It’s frustrating at times,” said Roethlisberger, the Steelers’ two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback. “(I’m) trying to make the throws I can make later in the year, but my arm isn’t ready for it.”
After Monday’s practice, Roethlisberger said he’s a little frustrated with his performance during the first three days of training camp.
“I think I have a pick every day in practice,” he said.
Yes, “Big Ben” has thrown an interception during 11-on-11 drills in each of the past three days.
Roethlisberger said he was also upset that he didn’t connect on a few deep passes Monday.
But coach Mike Tomlin isn’t about to panic.
“We misconnected on a couple of deep balls, but it didn’t look like it had anything to do with arm strength,” Tomlin said.
Roethlisberger, 27, said it usually take a week or so at camp until his arm gets in the groove.
