The Washington Capitals on Sunday resigned winger Carl Hagelin to a 4 year, $11 million contract. For Hagelin its’s a decrease in salary but overall it’s an excellent deal for himself in getting a four year term (Age 31-34) with the cap potentially going to be in the $80.5-$81 million range instead of the projected $83 million range.
For Washington, there’s some questions with the term where they probably went one year too long. Some could argue two years too long. Coming off a 5 goal season and with the hands fading, getting even a 25 point season from Hagelin has now become a major stretch moving forward.
The Capitals who try to mesh a physical/speed component to their game, are buying for the speed game to remain and the other intangibles Hagelin brings to the table from the PK to a great locker room presence.
That is far better money for this guy, Its not like he is a light the lamp type and he isnt the “beat him to death” in front of the net type either. Unless he blows a tire in the next 4 years this is a solid deal for a guy who plays the game he does.
