If there’s a team that desperately needed the All-Star break/Bye Week, it’s the Washington Capitals. The defending Cup Champions dropped their seventh straight game Wednesday night with a 5-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is a hockey club that just looks gassed from their goaltending on out. Braden Holtby posting a 2nd straight sub-.910 SV% season, the Capitals have allowed 21 goals over their last three games and have been outscored 36-18 during the losing streak. Washington has luckily built up some capital where they still sit 2nd in the Metropolitan Division with 60 points. Washington returns from the break February 1st against the Western Conference leading Calgary Flames and won’t have the NHL’s leading goal scorer Alex Ovechkin (suspended for skipping All-Star Game).
