The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired defenseman Matt Niskanen from the Washington Capitals in exchange for defenseman Radko Gudas.

Niskanen has 2 years remaining with a $5.75 million cap hit. Washington gets a cap savings of over $3 million with the Flyers retaining 30 percent of Gudas’ $3.35 million cap hit.

Niskanen’s departure is not surprising as Capitals officials believe his game took a nose-dive last season and quietly put him on the market at the deadline.
