Penguins victorious in season opener

Phil Kessel scored in the fourth round of the shootout as the Pittsburgh Penguins (1-0-0, 2 pts) came away with a 3-2 shootout win over the Washington Capitals (0-0-1, 2 pts) on Thursday night.

Marc Andre Fleury stopped 39 of 41 shots in a strong showing.

Evgeni Malkin (1G-1A-2Pts)) had a goal, assist in the victory and added a shootout goal. Patric Hornqvist (1G-0A-1Pts) also scored in the win.
