Week 1 Takeaways
SEA 21 – CIN 20: Andy Dalton was balling in throwing for 418 yards and 2 touchdowns as the Bengals nearly escaped Seattle with an upset win. Cincinnati was very well coached in this one. Russell Wilson throwing just 20 times continues to be an inexcusable approach from the Seahawks in not unleashing Wilson……
SD 30 – IND 24 (OT): The Colts showed today on the road why they’ll continue to be a tough out even with Andrew Luck retiring. Jacoby Brissett managed the game well, going an efficient 21/27 for 190 yards and 2 touchdowns. Despite a ton of cap room, Marlon Mack was a reason the Colts didn’t even place a phone call to Le’Veon Bell in free agency. Mack went off for 174 rushing yards. Adam Vinatieri finally showing his age? He missed three kicks…….
DAL 35 – NYG 17: Dak Prescott $$$$$$. 25/32, 405 yards, 4 touchdowns. Prescott’s not deserving of top-5 QB money but he’s going to get it whether it’s this season or the off-season. The talent level between the Cowboys and Giants was something else. New York was completely out-classed and the Daniel Jones clock is already starting. Saquon Barkley rushed for 120 yards on 11 carries in the loss…..
SF 31 – 17: Bruce Arians known as the QB fixer has his work cut out for him with Jameis Winston who handed a very winnable game in Arians debut to the 49ers in throwing 3 interceptions, including two-pick6’s……
TEN 43 – CLE 13: A lot of hype and the same old Browns. Cleveland got punched in the mouth in all facets.Tennessee imposed their will, dominated in the trenches and from the sidelines as Mike Vrabel & Co put on a coaching clinic against the rookie HC Freddie Kitchens. The Titans made Baker Mayfield uncomfortable from start to finish, resulting in a 3 interception game from Mayfield. Luckily the Browns get the Jets in Week 2………
BAL 59 – MIA 10: About those LaMar Jackson accuracy issues. Jackson was flawless, going 17/20 for 324 yards and 5 touchdowns. Marquise “Hollywood” Brown stole the show early with 4 catches for 147 yards and 2 touchdowns, including an 83 yard TD reception. Mark Ingram who looks born to be a Raven, rushed for 107 yards on 14 carries. It was just the Dolphins but the Ravens have an offense worth tuning in for…..
BUF 17 – NYJ 16: Josh Allen and the Bills overcame a 16-point deficit. In his first game action since January 2018, Le’Veon Bell rushed for 60 yards on 17 carries and added 32 receiving yards and a TD catch in the loss. Bell was a non-factor running the ball with his longest run being 12 yards…….
Chiefs 40 – Jaguars 26: There’s no stopping Patrick Maholmes who lost Tyreek Hill early and kept rolling along. Maholmes threw for 378 yards and 3 TD’s, while Sammie Watkins had a monster game with 9 catches for 198 yards and 3 TD’s. A Great offense with so many playmakers like the Chiefs have can turn back the clock for some as was the case with LeSean McCoy who averaged 8.1 yards per carry. For Jacksonville they lost Nick Foles to a broken clavicle…….
MIN 28 – ATL 12: Kurt Cousins threw just 10 times for 98 yards and 1 touchdown, yet, the Vikings cruised to a 16-point win. It seems like an eternity when Atlanta was an unstoppable offense…..
Rams 30 – Panthers 27: The best matchup on the 1:00 p.m. slate didn’t disappointment with the Rams holding on for a 3-point win. LAR got out to a fast start and overcame a subpar game from Jared Goff who went 23-39 for 186 yards and 1 TD/1INT. Todd Gurley rushed for 97 yards on 14 carries. That’s an impressive east coast road win to start the year for LA…..
Eagles 32 – Redskins 27: This one was setting up as the stunner of week 1. The Eagles offense, though, would eventually wake up and rally from a 20-0 deficit. Desean Jackson is back where he belongs in Philadelphia, having a spectacular game with 8 catches for 154 yards and 2 TD’s. Carson Wentz threw for 313 yards and 3 TD’s…..
