On the 25th anniversary of one of the biggest days in Penguins’ history: the drafting of Hall of Famer /current owner Mario Lemieux in 1984, the Penguins beat the Red Wings 2-1 on what will go down as one of the most important wins in the teams playoff history.
There wasn’t a prouder person in the locker room last night than Mario Lemieux. Lemieux who has taking a more active role in the day to day operations visited the team minutes before the drop of the puck.
What was most impressive about Pittsburgh’s 2-1 win was that Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby were held without a point. It was the first time that the Penguins won a playoff game when Malkin or Crosby were held without a point.
Game 6 was a defining moment for the Penguins as their role players, not Crosby, Malkin took the spotlight.

There’s a rumor going around that Bill Guerin is considering retirement after the Finals. We’re hearing

there is nothing to do it and that Guerin has expressed an interest in playing a few more seasons to friends and teammates.
The speculation about Guerin considering retirement is due to having a young family and his wife wanting to stay in the New York area.
Rob Scuderi leads the playoffs with 52 blocked shots. On Monday Scuderi was talking about how Game 6 could be his last game with the Penguins. The impending free agent is becoming a household name around the league.
Pittsburgh held an optional practice today. The team will go over some film and will begin their preparations for game 7 this afternoon.
* Petr Sykora was getting treatment on his ankle this morning. Sykora blocked a shot in the second period and didn’t play much after that.
The Penguins will go through a full squad practice, Thursday morning.
The team will arrive in Detroit around 2:00 p.m. Thursday afternoon and there will be a media session around 4:00 p.m.
