OLB Woodley vs RT Cherilus
It’s a homecoming of sorts for LaMarr Woodley, who hails from Saginaw. So the Steelers’ left outside linebacker would like to put on a show in his first pro game in his home state of Michigan, and maybe even get his first sack of the season.
“It’s going to be a great feeling,” Woodley said. “I’ve got a lot of family coming to the game, and a lot of people who haven’t seen me play since high school, and they’re more excited than I am about the game.”
It would be unfair to say that Woodley hasn’t play well so far this season. But he definitely isn’t making the splash plays he did last year when he recorded 11.5 sacks during the regular season and then six more in the playoffs. At times, he’s applied pressure on opposing quarterbacks. But not only has he failed to record a sack, he’s only been credited with four solo tackles. Thirteen other Steeler defenders have more.
Today, Woodley will try to get untracked against Gosder Cherilus, the Lions’ first-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He’s a big tackle at 6-foot-7 and 319 pounds. And he already has 17 starts, or two less than Woodley, a second-round pick in the ’07 draft.
