The Islanders are in desperate mode have offered contracts to Ladislav Nagy who signed in LA & Danius Zubrus. They appear to be out the Bill Guerin sweepstakes but who knows with free agency. He turned down a 2 yr 7 million deal i ve just been told.

Eklund of HockeyBuzz.com has the Penguins as a possible landing spot for center Mike Peca. Been looking into this all day and have found out that the Penguins have touched based with Peca’s representatives but no formal offer has been made yet. A 2 year – 4 million offer could be on the way from the Penguins but Peca is seeking 3 million per season which is looking very unlikely. As soon as i hear anything else i will post it. The Penguins also inquired about Brian Smolinsky whom they had interest in at the deadline but no offer was made. Smolinsky signed with Habs for 1 yr 2 million deal.

Talked to a few people inside the organization this afternoon who seemed surprised that Danny Markov rejected their 2 year deal than Paul Kariya going to St.Louis. They thought Markov was a done deal as of last night. Cory Sarich getting close to 3.5 million played apart in Markov looking for more money. His price has risen.

Bill Guerin’s agent made it known to Ray Shero Guerin is intriqued with the Pittsburgh situation. The problem is Ray Shero is not willing to go beyond 3 million per season on a 1 year deal. Guerin is seeking a 2 yr deal worth 8 million but has not recevied what he is looking for at this moment. General Managers are balking at that price and is a reason Guerin is still on the free agent market
