STEELERS – THURSDAY By Dale Grdnic PITTSBURGH — When asked if he intended on returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers again next season as their defensive coordinator, Dick LeBeau’s response was short and sweet. “Well, that’ll be up to Coach Tomlin,” LeBeau said. “Let’s just say that I really like Pittsburgh, and I really like working for the Steelers. But Coach Tomlin will have to tell you whether he wants me back. So, it’ll be up to Mike, but I love Pittsburgh.”

By Dale Grdnic PITTSBURGH — After a couple hard practice days, Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker James Harrison backed off Thursday and second-year pro Chris Carter handled the starting spot on the right side of the club’s defense. Harrison (left knee), who did not participate at all in Thursday’s practice, was expected to return Friday. He also said he would discuss his health after the Steelers’ Friday practice, which is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If Harrison can’t play against the Denver Broncos Sunday night, second-year player Chris Carter is expected to get the start. NFL: Tuesday’s Steelers practice report


Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was at the Steelers facility today and on the practice field but Ben did not practice. Roethlisberger will not practice on Wednesday but he has not been ruled out for practice on Thursday. Very good news on that front. If Roethlisberger were to have a set back next week, the vibe I’m getting is the players are very confident with Leftwich at the helm for a game. Despite the loss to Tennessee in week 16, the Steelers have the swagger they had going into the 2005 playoffs. Mike Tomlin is keeping them very focused on their goal. There’s talk that the Steelers
