Stock Watch: On Forwards in the mix for final roster spot
ROSTER MOVES Following last night’s 4-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in preseason game No. 2, the Penguins this morning made 11 cuts, sending goaltenders Matt Murray and Tristan Jarry and forwards Jean-Sebastien Dea, Matia Marcantuoni back to their respective junior teams. Forwards Tom Kostopoulos, Brian Gibbons, Paul Thompson, and Dominik Uher, and defensemen Nick D’Agostino, Clark Seymour, and Reid McNeill were sent to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The moves put the camp roster at 44 with 21 to 23 more cuts to come before October 3rd. Of the group, these were the type of cuts to expect and among the junior eligible players, Matia Marcantuoni’s play in camp was promising. ROSTER UPDATE The Penguins have 25 forwards left in camp and
Tuesday’s Practice Buzz: Bennett back on second line; Who comes out with Martin’s expected return?
TUESDAY’S PRACTICE BUZZ
Game Day Buzz: Despite lack of role with team, Penguins would be better served to hold onto Jeffrey
GAME DAY BUZZ Dustin Jeffrey is a well mannered person who will never publicly say this but you can bet he would not have minded being in Eric Tangradi’s shoes last week and being traded to another team that planned on giving him a better opportunity and regular role in the lineup than he’s getting with the Penguins. Jeffrey has been scratched for 13 of 17 games this season but will return to the lineup tonight in place of Joe Vitale who will be a healthy scratch. With the way he’s viewed by the coaching staff, Jeffrey will probably be back in the press box Sunday night, regardless of how he plays tonight. That’s just how it’s gone for him.

Morning Pens Buzz: Michalek’s prowess as a shot blocker was overlooked; Eligible for waivers, Jeffrey motivated to showcase himself to Pens, rest of league in camp, source says
MORNING PENS BUZZ — The NHL is reviewing details of Greg Jamison’s latest attempt to finalize the Phoenix Coyotes sale and if everything checks out and Jamison officially closes the sale like the Coyotes and Jamison now believe is just a formality, Jamison’s first big move as owner will be overpaying captain Shane Doan. While Doan has shown great patience in waiting on Jamison, he won’t be giving the Coyotes likely owner a hometown discount. Doan’s agent Terry Bross has set the stage for Doan to receive a four year deal from the Coyotes in the range of $22-$24 million. — Don’t think the Penguins waiting on Shane Doan is holding up other potential impact moves. They know despite being
Latest Pens Buzz: Jeffrey’s reps to push for trade this off-season?
LATEST PENS BUZZ: SHERO LAID INTO TEAM IN EXIT MEETINGS Why Dustin Jeffrey fell so out of favor with head coach Dan Bylsma remains a mystery to Jeffrey and his representatives, sources tell Inside Pittsburgh Sports.com. NHL sources indicate agents Pat Brisson and Jim Nice are expected to speak with GM Ray Shero in the coming weeks about whether the team no longer see’s Jeffrey’s style of play as a fit and
Latest Pens Rumblings: Team has open mind on trade front going into deadline day
WAIT AND SEE MODE Penguins GM Ray Shero is always looking to improve his team at the deadline, and the team enters the final hours of the trade deadline with an open mind on several fronts, a team source says. What Shero and many GM’s around the league have been met with is a tough market highlighted by few players available and high asking prices for marginal impact players. Pittsburgh like a few other top contenders who are looking to add but not desperate to make a move, are waiting for the prices to hopefully come down as the deadline inches closer. As of late Sunday afternoon, the Penguins were said to still be in wait and see mode when
Dustin Jeffrey eligible to come off IR at any time
Dustin Jeffrey (knee) will begin the season on injured reserve and like Sidney Crosby, is eligible to come off IR at any time, due to being injured last season. Crosby and Jeffrey don’t fall into the seven day window. Jeffrey was cleared for contact on Friday and is closer to returning than Crosby. Indications are he could be ready to go within two weeks, if not sooner.
Talks have yet to get going with RFA Dustin Jeffrey
The other restricted free agent at the NHL level for the Penguins this off-season is center Dustin Jeffrey. It’s a negotiation that figures to be a much easier one for GM Ray Shero than the one he will have with Tyler Kennedy’s agent Steve Bartlett. However, it can also be considered a “tricky” negotiation for the Penguins. At this time though talks have yet to get going between Shero and Jeffrey’s new reps at CAA Sports. Looking forward, should the Penguins commit to anything beyond a qualifying offer?: Jeffrey appeared to be on his way to possibly earning a 1-way contract this off-season until he hurt his knee against the Philadelphia Flyers on March 24th. The injury required surgery and
Dustin Jeffrey to have surgery on Tuesday
Post-Practice Notes Dustin Jeffrey is scheduled to have knee surgery on Tuesday. Jeffrey is expected to be lost for the season but there was no indication on what kind of surgery he is getting. A very tough break for him. Eric Tangradi will not go on the trip to Florida with the team.
