A lot of buzz going around right now that the Tennessee Titans will be the team that comes to Heinz field for the NFL‚Äôs Thursday night season opener in 2009. The San Diego Chargers are believed to be the second choice at this point. The opportunity will be presented to the Baltimore Ravens for a rematch of the AFC Championship game to open the 2009 season but it is likely that they will decline like the Denver Broncos did in 06. Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward went through a full practice on Thursday. The only reporter allowed in the Steelers practice is’s Peter King. Hines Ward is the only Steelers player on the injury report. For the Cardinals defensive end Travis LaBoy (biceps), defensive end Antonio Smith (knee), running back J.J. Arrington (knee), and punter punter Ben Graham (groin) have been limited in practice according to reports. All four players are expected to play. Mike Tomlin denied an internet report ( that Ben Roethlisberger had a X-Ray on his ribs yesterday. Roethlisberger hurt his back in the first half of the Ravens game. Nonetheless this is a non-story because the only practice Roethlisberger missed was last Wednesday and there is nothing wrong with him.

Monday’s Superbowl Notebook: Steelers arrive in Tampa


Media Frenzy: There is nothing like the Super Bowl when it comes to the media circus. The players not only have to deal with the intense media coverage but there are also tons of parties and gatherings going on. It is very easy to get distracted but don‚Äôt expect any distractions from this group. NFL: Ward expects to practice on Thursday


According to the Tribune-Review, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward expects to practice on Thursday and test his injured knee. Ward spoke to the media Monday afternoon after the Steelers touched down in Tampa Bay at 11:50 a.m. Ward had this to say — “We’ll see where we’re at, “I can’t really say because I haven’t run or cut or done anything. I’ve just been getting treatment 24 hours ’round-the-clock. It feels better. I don’t have a brace on. I’m walking around fine. It’s not going to be 100 percent. I’m not going to trick anybody and prove that but I think I’m going to be able to be good to go out there and perform like I want to.” Source: Tribune-Review

Wednesday’s Super Bowl Notebook: Steelers became a close group in Tomlin’s 2nd season


Transition is not easy and that was clear when Mike Tomlin was named the Steelers new head coach¬†in 2007.¬†The Steelers got off to a 9-3 start in 07 but¬†some of the¬†team questioned Tomlin‚Äôs philosophy because of how attached a lot of the veteran players were to former head coach Bill Cowher. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 243 yards and had 1 passing touchdown and 1 rushing touchdown as the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cincinatti Bengals 27 ‚Äì 10 Thursday night at Heinz Field. After throwing eight interceptions in three games, Roethlisberger has played mistake free football the past two games and has thrown for a combined 551 yards in his last 8 quarters of football. Steelers beat Chargers 11-10


Despite outgaining the San Diego Chargers 410 ‚Äì 216 the Steelers had to rally in the fourth quarter behind Ben Roethlisberger‚Äôs 1st 300 yard passing game at home since November of 2006, and Jeff Reed‚Äôs third field goal with 11 seconds left in the game won it for the Steelers 11-10 over the San Diego Chargers. Ben Roethlisberger was efficient with precise passes and passed for 308 yards on a season-high 41 attempts but the Steelers failed to get in the end zone. For the second straight week the Steelers struggled to score with rushing plays on the goal line.
