McPherson throws 5 scoreless outings in best start of spring

 

Spring Training Notes Kyle McPherson (5.68 ERA) battling for one of the final rotation spots, had his best outing of the spring this afternoon in a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. McPherson threw five scoreless innings, allowing 4 hits and no walks, while striking out one. In McPherson’s previous two spring starts, he allowed 8 hits and 8 earned runs in 5.2 innings. Today McPherson faced several regulars from the Phillies lineup with Chase Utley, Michael Young, and Ryan Howard among them. McPherson allowed a single to first baseman Ryan Howard in the second inning and a double to Chase Utley in the fourth inning. Darin Ruf also hit a single in the second inning and Ender Inciarte had a double in the fifth inning.
