NFL: Steelers tried to move up and land Max Unger in 2nd round

The Steelers tried aggressively to trade up in the second round to land Oregon center Max Unger but after failing to find a trade partner, the Steelers traded their 2nd round and 4th round pick to the Denver Broncos for two third round picks (79) & (84). The Steelers now have three third round picks as rounds 3-7 resume at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Unger was a target for the Steelers in the first round and would have been a great value in the second.

There has been a ton of buzz the past 48 hours that the Steelers¬†are looking to go¬†defensive line in the first round. Mike Tomlin and defensive coordinator Dick Lebeau deserve a lot of credit for the team’s success on the field but Kevin Colbert deserves a lot of credit for constructing a Super Bowl champion. The Steelers got minimal production from their 08 draft but Colbert make key draft picks in 07 such as Lawrence Timmons, William Gay who didn’t make much of a impact in 07 but were unsung players on the 08 team.
