Ward in essence challenged Roethlisberger’s toughness for sitting out with what Ward described as “just a concussion.” “I told (Hines) I was just more hurt than anything,” Roethlisberger said. Pittsburgh should be a team preparing for another division title but that’s not the case. Polamalu has PCL sprain; likely to play against Baltimore

Week 11 Mike Tomlin Press Conference roundup Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin confirmed today that the injury to Troy Polamalu is not as severe as once believed. Polamalu suffered a PCL sprain, opposed to last time when he had an MCL injury. Polamalu is expected to be held out against Kansas City this Sunday but there are strong indications that Polamalu will be able to play against Baltimore in week 12. “Troy’s status for this game is probably questionable at best, although we’ve had some favorable information in regards to where he is from a health standpoint, ” Mike Tomlin said.

Bengals sweep season series with Pittsburgh for the first time since 1998

Cincinnati 18 – Pittsburgh 12 The Cincinnati Bengals came into Pittsburgh and won a game that many didn’t think was possible. The Steelers appeared to be peaking and have been nearly unbeatable at Heinz Field. Mike Tomlin said it best following the game that the Steelers “are still a developing team”. On Sunday afternoon Cincinnati beat the Steelers in the trenches and clearly showed that they are for real. The Bengals improved to 7-2 on the season and 5-0 in the division. They control their own destiny in the AFC North but it’s not time to panic in Pittsburgh.

Mike Tomlin Press Conference Coming off their bye week, the Pittsburgh Steelers have a Monday Night showdown in Denver against the 6-1 Broncos. Pittsburgh lost their previous meeting (07) in Denver 31-28 and have not won in Denver since the 1990’s. Denver leads the All-Time series 16-9-1 and Pittsburgh has lost two straight vs Denver. Pittsburgh got a much needed win Sunday night putting up 38 points against the San Diego Chargers. The offense was clicking on all cylinders as Ben Roethlisberger threw for 333 yards and the Steelers rushed for 177 yards led by Rashard Mendenhall’s 165 yards on the night. What was most impressive about the Steelers offense Sunday night was that they kept trying to score in the 4th quarter. Free Agency begins on February 27th The Steelers have been involved in contract talks with James Harrison for about 7 days now. Reports indicate Harrison’s agent will meet with the Steelers at the combine. Talks with Heath Miller will begin in March once the Steelers priorities in free agency are taking care of. Miller is just as much of a priority for the Steelers as anyone. They have no intention of him entering 09 without a long-term extension. Jason Witten received a $6 year Р$28 million contract a few seasons ago. Miller doesn’t put up the numbers Witten does but is regarded as the most complete tight end in the game. Tomlin Wins Motorola Coach of The Year Award

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin who guided his team to a 12-4 regular season record, and a super bowl berth in his 2nd season has been named the 2008 Motorola Coach of the Year. The award was conducted on NFL.com from January 7th – January 21st. According to the NFL, Tomlin received over 520,000 votes. The other finalists were Jeff Fisher of the Tennessee Titans, Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants, Mike Smith of the Atlanta Falcons, John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens, and Tony Sparano of the Miami Dolphins.

Practice Report: Number of players miss practice

Mike Tomlin’s main goal this week is to keep his players focused on the main prize. Tomlin stressed that at yesterday’s press conference and the Steelers will practice this week like they have a game on Sunday. The Steelers went through a normal workout today, and will do the same on Thursday, Friday and Saturday before they depart for Tampa Bay on Monday. In today’s practice a number of players were out with injuries and others took the day off. Injured players WR Hines Ward (Knee Sprain) ,Lt Max Starks (knee), RB Mewelde Moore (ankle), Patrick Bailey (Hamstring), C Justin Hartwig (Knee) did not practice.
