Coming off a 6-1 win Wednesday night, the Penguins held an optional practice this afternoon. Among the forwards who skated were Sidney Crosby, Pascal Dupuis, Craig Adams, Max Talbot, Eric Godard, Jordan Staal and Tyler Kennedy Defensemen Kris Letang and Philippe Boucher also skated. Penguins get much needed win; speculation heating up; Zigomanis to decide on status by end of month?

The Penguins didn’t put together a 60 minute game but they controlled the play for the first two periods and beat the Philadelphia Fylers 4-2 Tuesday night at the Wachovia Center. Evgeni Malkin scored his 17th goal of the season, and Sidney Crosby added two assists as the dynamic duo played on the same line for the second consecutive game. Head coach Michel Therrien altered the Penguins lines prior to the game, moving gritty forward Matt Cooke up to the first line to play with Malkin and Crosby. The move paid off as Crosby, Cooke and Malkin combined for two goals and two assists. Cooke scored with 36 seconds remaining in the second period to the put the Penguins up

NHL: Penguins Injury – Practice Report/ Boucher misses practice

Updated Practice Report: As expected Tyler Kennedy practiced for the third consecutive game. Also defenseman Philippe Boucher did not practice. Boucher was a scratch yesterday. More to come This morning saw a bit of good news for the Penguins as Sergei Gonchar was skating for a conditioning workout. Gonchar been rehabbing for about five weeks now and there’s been talk for about the last couple weeks that he will probably return a few weeks prior to the trade deadline. Gonchar is not shooting pucks yet. The news on Mike Zigomanis is not good. Sources tell me

Alexei Kovalev’s numbers (8goals – 19 assists – 27 pts) are down a bit this season but he leads the Canadiens in scoring and indications are Kovalev believes he still has three more good years left in him. Kovalev 35, a unrestricted free agent at season’s end has an interest in resigning with the Canadiens but in all likely hood Kovalev will hit the open market. Sources tell me Kovalev would welcome a return to Pittsburgh with the chance to play with Evgeni Malkin. It remains to be seen how interested the Penguins front office will be in pursuing Kovalev this summer. Petr Sykora may have to settle for a two year deal if he wants to resign with Pittsburgh.

NHL: Talbot out, Zigomanis to return?

Pittsburgh Penguins forward Maxime Talbot did not practice Friday and will not play in Philadelphia Saturday afternoon. Talbot left Thursday’s game with a injury in the third period. Forward Mike Zigomanis is hopeful that he will be able to play against Philadelphia. Zigomanis is expected to center Jeff Taffe and Eric Godard who has been a healthy scratch for the past two games

Crosby leads Penguins to 5-2 win

The Penguins dominated from the drop of puck beating the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2 Thursday night. Pittsburgh has earned a point in 12 of their last 14 games (10-2-2), received big games from Sidney Crosby and right winger Petr Sykora. Crosby the league’s second leading scorer had a four point night recording four assists to give him 14 points in his last 5 games. Sykora who got off to a sub-par start this season had two goals against the Hurricanes and now has three goals in four games. Goaltender Dany Sabourin made 34 saves to record his 6th win of the season
