The Anaheim Ducks have signed Teemu Selanne to a two year deal. Selanne entered training camp on a tryout contract until the Ducks could trade defenseman Mathieu Schneider to clear salary cap room. Bruins GM Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli remains in the market for a veteran defenseman according to the Boston Herald.The Herald speculates that the Bruins could be preparing a major deal. One would likely include forward Phil Kessel who the Bruins aggressively tried to trade over the summer. The Bruins have also inquired about a Penguins defenseman. NHL: Talks reach pivotal point

Talks between Marian Gaborik and the Minnesota Wild have reached a pivotal point as the season opener begins on October 11th. Wild GM Doug Risebrough tells the St. Paul Pioneer Press that it’s time for Gaborik to make a decision. Two days ago Ron Salcer told the paper that Marian told him to get a deal done. Talks are on-going but it’s unclear whether a deal is imminent. The Wild are prepared to trade Gaborik if he denies their offer.

NHL: C. Lemieux returning at age 43?

At age 43 former NHL player Claude Lemieux is attempting a comeback after being out of the game for up to 5 years. Lemieux tells RDS exclusively that he has been training intensely for the last ten weeks. The article indicated Lemieux most notably has been skating with members of the Phoenix Coyotes. NHL: Shanahan to look elsewhere?

There are strong indications that the New York Rangers front office remains split on whether to bring back forward Brendan Shanahan. Numbers have been discussed but the Rangers have yet to make an official offer. Newsday reports “the possibility remains that the Rangers will offer Shanahan a one-year deal before the team leaves Sept. 27 with about 30 players for Europe, where they will play two preseason games in Bern, Switzerland, and open the season against Tampa Bay in Prague on Oct. 4.” The St.Louis Blues have been among a group of teams that have inquired about Shanahan. NFL: Rob Ryan to be named Raiders head coach?

The San Francisco Chronicle reports the Raiders victory against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday afternoon won‚Äôt help Lane Kiffin keep his job. Raiders owner Al Davis is adamant about getting rid of Kiffin and is expected to fire Kiffin very soon. The Chronicle reports Kiffin’s fate was sealed on Wednesday when “Kiffin told the media that the 41-14 Monday night meltdown against the Broncos happened in large part because defensive coordinator Rob Ryan and the team’s owner conspire to exclude him from defensive decisions.” Will the Raiders go in-house for their next coach.
