49er’s sign Marvel Smith to a 2 year-deal


The San Francisco 49er’s and former Pittsburgh Steelers OT Marvel Smith have agreed to a 2 year-deal. A source tells me the deal is believed to worth around $2.1 million per season (base pay) with an additional $3 million in incentives that could make the deal worth close to $5.1 million per season. Smith played the first nine seasons of his NFL career with the Steelers and was named to the probowl in 2005. Smith has only appeared in 17 games over the past two seasons and missed the Steelers final 13 games in 2008. Smith, an Oakland native will be the 49er’s starting right tackle after the team released RT Jonas Jennings.
