Sunday morning report

The Isle of Capri’s vision of the Pens new Arena The Penguins have the upper edge on the politicians. After being told for years that their was no public money the Penguins look like they finally have the edge on the local and state politicians. The Penguins were told to find their own way of public funding and they did by joining with the Isle of Capri who have said they will fork up 290 million for a new arena which would keep the team here. Well as everyone knows governor Ed Rendell is a crook and rumors are that he had told the Rattners of Station Sqaure that he will repay them for their campaign contributions but awarding them with the Slots license in Station Square. Now with the Penguins plan out there and Rendell up for re-election next November he has to act soon. That is why yourRead More »

Three Big Names on the move? NBA trade Rumors Kevin Garnett heading to New York? Various reports out of NY is that the Timberwolves and Knicks are in serious disscussions in a trade involving Kg to the Knicks for Channing Frye and Jalen Rose my take: No way this deal will ever happen, I see this more as the New York media just dreaming. One deal though that could possibly happen is a three team trade that would reunite KG with Stephon Marbury in Minnisota not New York. Allen Iverson will not be traded: Although the 76er’s have given the possibility of moving Iverson it’s more likely to happen in the summer than now. One team to make a run at him this summer will be Denver who had disscussions with the 76er’s but were shut down at the time. Steve Francis: He will be a Knick by Thursday, butRead More »

Quarterfinal predictions

Keith K’Tkachuk and Team U.S.A haven’t had much to celebrate, but that will change today. Game 1: Sweden (3-2) vs. Switzerland (2-1-2)Why the Swedes will win: Petr Forseberg has not played a prominent role during the olympics but he will today. Sweden is not the team they could have been but can play a average game and still win this game. Switzerland is a dream story after upset wins against Canada and Czech Republic but their story book ending will end. -Prediction Sweden 4 – Switzerland 1 Game 2: United States (1-3-1) vs. Finland (5-0)Why U.S.A will win. What a upset this will be but this is the best possible matchup for the United States. The Americans have lost 3 straight games but finally were able to produce some goals in their 5-4 loss to Russia. That was a big stepping stone for them and expect that spark to carryRead More »

NFL news and notes

Miami Dolphins Running back Ricky Williams is facing the possibility of a 1 yr suspension Ricky Williams busted again…. Reports are swirling around that Ricky Williams has failed a fourth drug test which will result in a 1 year suspension. I was a big fan of Ricky this year, but it’s obvious this guy is a idiot. If these reports are true this guys career will be over although im pretty sure he won’t care about that. To bad for Miami Dolphins who finished strong last season with a 9-7 record. Ricky was big reason why they went 6-1 in the last seven games. Now he has no trade value and no value to their team if he ends up getting suspended for the season. Drew Brees will not get the franchise tag… This situation is mind boggling to me at the moment. If San Diego lets Brees hit theRead More »

Is Barry Bonds set to retire following the 06 season ?

Don’t believe the retirement talk one bit One of baseball’s greatest players Barry Bonds has said that he plans to retire at the end of the 06 season with or without the all time homerun record. Well after one day that report surfaced, he has changed his tone a bit saying ” If I can play (in 2007), I’m going to play; if I can’t I won’t,” Bonds told the web site. “. . . I go back and forth. Back and forth every day.” After three knee surgeries in the past year, many say that he is done and is making excuses left and right because he knows it to. Don’t believe that one bit. After missing five months of the 05 season Barry comes out and hits 5 homeruns in a 5 game span. That was truly remarkable to see. Most importantly when he came back the Giants,Read More »

Olympic Hockey Preview

Will Jarome Iginla lead Team Canada to the Gold Medal? Top 5 teams Canada:The odds on favorite to win the gold and they rightfully should be. Anything but a Gold Medal will be a disappointment. Strengths Offense and Goaltending. Offensively their top 3 lines are loaded. They are led by their top line of Sakic ,Iginla and whoever fills the left wing posistion that Mario occupied on that line. I expect to see Simon Gange to fill that void nicely on the left side. This teams taxi squad would be a top 2 line on any team in the NHL so you get my drift about them being loaded upfront. One player to watch for Team Canada will be Joe Thornton. Since being traded to San Jose he has been dominant. Expect more of the same once the tournament beings.. Goaltending wise, what can you say. Marty Brodeur is theRead More »

Peaking At The Right Time

The NHL midseason report After 7 years of missing the playoffs and having the leagues highest payroll the New York Rangers went into rebuilding mode months before the 03-04 season ended. They knew that a salary cap was going to be implemented once a labor agreement was ever going to be struck so they had to get rid of their high price players. Upon doing that, Rangers management did a very bright thing in keeping Jaromir Jagr for the long run instead of unloading his 8 million a year salary at the time. Coming into the season New York Rangers were picked by many experts including Sports Illustrated to finish dead last in the league. Well I would have to say the Rangers surely have proved their doubters wrong. Heading into the Olympic break the New York Rangers sit atop the Atlantic Division with 78 points. They are lead byRead More »

Fleury shines as Pens win second in a row

The Pittsburgh Penguins head into the olympic break with a two game winning streak. Yes i said a two game winning streak. Friday night they defeated the best team in the league the Carolina Hurricans 4-3 in a game believe or not that they outplayed the Hurricanes for most of the game. It was a great team effort and getting goals from Boguniecki, Leclair, Recchi and Crosby. One player that i was impressed with friday night was Ryan Whitney. He finally looked like the player who first came to the team in November. He was playing with confidence and was the best player on the ice. For this team to finish off the season strong after the Olympic break is for Ryan Whitney to play like the Ryan Whitney that played against the Hurricanes. Tonite the Pens defeated the Washington Capitals 6-3. The Pens started off strong with Sidney CrosbyRead More »

Tough decisions ahead for the Super Bowl Champs

The Steelers head into the off season with key components on their team heading into free agency. The two names that jump out is Antwaan Randle El and safety Chris Hope. Before the season started it looked like Randle El could be signed at a relatively mid salary. Now after having a above average post season and winning the super bowl his stock has just risen considerably. Free agency begins March 3 and the Steelers have eleven players unrestricted free agents, including wideout Antwaan Randle El, free safety Chris Hope, cornerback Deshea Townsend, tight end Jerame Tuman, defensive end Brett Keisel, running back Verron Haynes, defensive end Kimo von Oelhoffen, quarterback Charlie Batch, wide receiver Quincy Morgan, offensive tackle Barrett Brooks and linebacker Clint Kriewaldt. Before resigning there own free agents this team must restructure Jeff Hartings and Duce Staleys contract to free up some cap space. One move theyRead More »
