LATEST JAROME IGINLA RUMORS
Do the Penguins remain a surprise player for Jarome Iginla?
According to NHL Insider Renaud Lavoie of RDS the Penguins are. Lavoie reports the Penguins “are still in the running for Iginla” despite the additions of Douglas Murray and Brenden Morrow.
The Penguins are one of four teams on Iginla’s trade list but buzz in Penguins circles is the Penguins opted not to go all in for Iginla because of the high asking price and unpredictable nature of Flames brass being up in the air of moving Iginla yet.
Is Ray Shero, though, still lurking around? It’s his job to but acquiring Iginla would be awfully tough to part with the three for one return the Flames seek, top pick, young impact NHL roster player and mid-tier prospect. Talk of the Penguins still being in the running might be coming from the Flames to keep the asking price high as there’s limited suitors with Iginla only willing to accept a trade to Pittsburgh, Chicago, Boston or Los Angeles.
One source says the only way Pittsburgh would pay the price to acquire Iginla were Iginla orchestrate his way to Pittsburgh and agree to an extension with Pittsburgh.
Iginla currently makes $7 million per season and sources say internal discussions the team had about Iginla has Pittsburgh seeing his value in the mold of Shane Doan from last summer when the Penguins offered Doan a 3 year deal in the $14.5 million range.
