2nd Period Updates
10:17 a.m. – 2nd Period underway. Pens open up period with Bob Errey – Mario Lemieux and Rob Brown upfront. Coffey and Murphy on D. Frank Pietrangelo in goal.
10:19 am – Lemieux passing up a lot of shooting opportunities and just nearly missed Errey on a setup in front.
10:23 a.m. – Capitals take 4-3 lead at 5:07 mark of the 2nd period. Paul Mulvey with two goals for Capitals.
10:25 a.m. – Pens get a too many men penalty at 5:59 of the period. Capitals on the power play and Rob Brown just misses shorthanded on a feed in front from Paul Coffey.
10:33 a.m. – Jay Caufield blasts a slap shot from the right point for his 1st of the game to tie the game at 4-4 with 9:11 left in the period. Assists to Brian Trottier and Troy Loney.
10:43 a.m. – Pens take 5-4 lead on a power play goal by Ron Francis. Francis was setup in front by Larry Murphy with Lemieux getting secondary assist. Lemieuz has 2 assists in the game.
Pens power play unit was Lemieux – Francis – Stevens with Coffey and Murphy at the point.
10:47 a.m. – Capitals pull the goalie and Petr Bondra scores with 50 seconds remaining to tie the game at 5-5. Game is only 2 periods by the way.
10:50 a.m. – Game ends in a 5-5 tie. Fans were screaming “shootout, shootout”.
1st Period Updates
9:20 a.m. – The players are making their way to the ice. half of the Lower bowl is filled with Pengunis fans. Mario Lemieux came out last to the late John Barbero announcing.
9:30 a.m. – Meloche gets the start for Pens with Stevens – Lemieux – Guerin up front and Murphy, Coffey starting on D
9:37 a.m. – Pens get on the board, 4:22 in the game on a Mario Lemieux setup Robby Brown in front. 1-0 Pens

9:40 a.m. – Capitals get on the board, at 6:56 in the period. 1-1. Alan May credited with goal
9:41 a.m. – Capitals get another quick one to make it 2-1 Caps.
9:44 a.m. – Pens tie it up at 2-2 as the Penguins second line of Gary Roberts and Rick Tocchett are off to a quick start, creating opportunity in front and Rod Buskas gets goal.
9:47 a.m. – Pens get another to take a 3-2 lead. Craig Simpson gets the goal, assisted by Peter Taglianetti and Gary Rissling.
9:49 a.m. – It’s quickly becoming a shootout as the Capitals tie the game up at 3-3.
9:53 a.m. – 5:23 left to play in the 1st period. Game tied at 3-3. EJ going with Rob Brown for the most part on Mario’s wing after starting the game with Stevens – Lemieux – Guerin.
10:00 a.m. – 3-3 after one period. Really a shame they only let 10,000 fans into the game. They could have at least filled the enter lower bowl.
