Jordan Staal remains a possibility to play in the Winter Classic. As the Penguins brass continues to weigh whether to let Staal play in the classic, head coach Dan Bylsma said during his press conference this afternoon that Staal is officially a gametime decision.
Bylsma would not tip his hand but it’s a difficult decision for the Penguins. They likely prefer to hold him out due to the conditions but Staal is pushing hard to play as anyone would.
“Considering the fact this is his first game coming up and hasn’t had a training and is going through the injuries, is more difficult, versus if he had been out for training camp, played 20 games then missed 15. It’s tough to figure out where to put a guy back in who hasn’t had the training camp and hasn’t played. Confidence level with the injuries he’s had and the one’s he’s coming off of are issues with him.”
