Scouting Report from Day 1
Defenseman Robert Bortuzzo was the top performer on day 1 when it came to the defensemen prospects.
Bortuzzo has made great strides in the skating department, and his lateral movement is much improved than it was at this time last year.
The improvement in his skating was evident, even during skilled drills and especially during 1-on-1 drills.
Bortuzzo took the body very well in the 1-on-1 drills and was 6-for-6 in the drills.
While the team has been thrilled with the improvement in his skating, his ability to move the puck when under pressure has also improved.
Bortuzzo who just signed a 3 year entry level deal is a player rising the Penguins prospects chart.

Spoke to a team scout on my way out and he liked what he saw from Carl Sneep today, “claiming he was among the top performers on the ice this afternoon.”
Sneep remains un-signed and is expected to return to Boston College for his senior season.
The most disappointing defenseman on day 1 was Brian Strait (2006, 3rd round pick)
Strait is a below average skater and he struggled mightily during the 1-on-1 drills.
He relies on his upper body strength too much which worked against smaller players but he was beat twice by Eric Tangradi and Nick Petersen who are both 6-foot-2 or taller.
